I am using FreeFlow ver 6 and when I open up the Spot Color Editor on FreeFlow I can create a new PMS with any values I want.

The only thing I don't know how to do is create a file that will pull those values. The name of the spot color on FFPS is the same as the name of the spot color in the file, yet it is not pulling the values from the editor.

How do I get the custom PMS in the file to be the same as the custom Spot Color on FreeFlow so it will pull the values I have assigned?

Does FreeFlow give you the ability to view the existing PANTONE colors, and edit those? That's the route I take on my Fiery. Otherwise, maybe checking for a "use substitute color" option in the job properties.

I actually have found that changing it to an actual PMS in the pantone library on FF still doesn't work. We are having an overprint issue that is preventing the RIP from recognizing the color as PMS, and changes it to Process, removing my ability to change it.

This may mean I indeed CAN use custom colors, although I do not have the ability to test it at the moment. I will post back with results later once I get a file with a custom color.

Have you checked that enable Pantone processing is turn on? Every once in a while someone will mess with my queues and change the settings instead of duping it to make a new one.
After a prescan does the color show as a spot?

i do know that the spot colors names have to match exactly in file and on the rip (upper and lower case, etc.).

The Spot color call out is screen dependent. Be sure you are changing it with the correct dot selected. (An old post, I know, but still coming up in searches)

Create the same color name in your file through indesign, photoshop,...etc. it will then use the color specified in the FF that you created.

Also the name cannot be too long or have symbols within it. E.g had a custom colour called 'Form light tint' this worked fine till the latest update but had to shorten it to 'FormGG' for it to be recognized.
