    Dear All,

I am new to this forum as well as new to offset printing. Have to say sorry in advance if I have made any mistakes.

Currently, thee is a need for me to print some documents with counterfeit measurement on it (Microtext, pt. 0.7 font). The microtext is only printed with 1 single color (black).

    May I know:
    1. Can I use a normal Offset Printer to print this Microtext? Since it is only one single color requires Microtext printing.

    2. Is there any special in term of the PS Plate? Do I need to get special PS Plate for the Microtext?

    3. What is the CTP requirement to print the Microtext? Because when I tell those CTP printer, many of them doesn't know what is microtext and what does 0.7 point font mean.

    Thanks and regards

Well, you should choose the printer carefully if it's 0.7 pt font. As fewer offset printing machine can print out such small size font clearly even it's black color.

Some people didn't use pt to measure the font size, they'll use mm, inch...

Maybe you have to use the laser printing instead.

 An offset press using a good quality plate should be able to provide better resolution than a laser printer.

Get a CTP plate with 3600 plus dpi resolution and it will be good enough to print on an offset press.

I do not want to misguide people to print a item with all the microtext , especially it's a 0.7 pt font, on an offset printing machine and hope to get good effect on it.

Yes, idealy and theoretically, our offset printing machine can also print it out. However, honestly speaking, it's at very high risk for it. We haven't printed one item with all the microtexts yet, so I can not tell people that we can print it by theory. As printing business should be very serious, otherwise, you'll loose money.

We did print item with some microtexts on our offset printing machine. Below is the picture I enlarge it into 600% to show you the results:

Thanks for the info. Do I need to look for special CTP machine in order to print on 3600+DPI plate?

Cron has an option of 3600 DPI but Kodak can go up to 10000 dpi.

A high resolution plate (2400 dpi+ is required for 1pt font) is all you need.
