employee question - women in press rooms

So, ahem, so this is gonna sound strange, but do you guys ever see women work in pressrooms? My wife's sis in law works a press but we don't have changing rooms for women at my place. Is it discrimination if my place doesn't allow women for the press? I really did not know what to tell her, I've only worked one place that had a female and that was 20 years ago. And really, I don't understand why that is but it is.

 

My very first job in printing the lead pressman/foreman (or presswoman in this case) was a lady. She ran the press as well as anyone. If she has the skills and knowledge why not let her work? A Women has to work twice has hard to be considered half as good as a man. Or so they saying goes. There are a few pressgirls around here. My wife was a stripper. film that is. She worked in pre press back when we first met. Back before digital anything and everything was shot, stripped and plated by hand. There are a few women in the trade here and I know some of them. Some have been at it a long time like us old farts. Printing and finding good pressman are becoming a lost art here. None of the vocational schools here teach printing anymore. It's all graphics and design on the computer. So finding someone in the trade who's good can be tough sometimes. Far as her changing she can use the ladies room or just come dressed ready to work. As long as the men don't mind her working there shouldn't be a problem.

 

in my press, a young lady used to run ABDick 360 "printing 2 colors jobs"
other one do all binding steps, gather manually, stitch and cut the product for its final size, other one print silk screen on all kind of materials.
bottomline, women can do all the stuff guys can handle"may be except handling heavy materials".
