    Hello guys, I'm a Designer,

I was wondering, what the printer does with the color proof.

    For example:

Or any hard color proof you can get it. What is the process you do after? How you check what are you are printing is the same or match with the "proof"? I know maybe some people does this with naked eyes, but are other ways?

    Thanks!

Well, the color on the color proof is only for reference! It's not the actual final printing colors! Some colors are quite different actually! There's other way, but it's expensive usually. Or you can use the old traditional methods- output the films for making the samples, but few people do it like that nowadays!

In 4 color offset the fogra 39 strip is most common. A good printer will check the strip on the proof is within allowed tolerances for fogra standards. The press minder will then match to the proof. In a calibrated workflow very little color shift should occur.

    Thanks for you reply...

I just wondering how do you check you color proof (Fogra strip) against the final print. Did you do only with your eyes? or did you use a special device to check the colour?

Using Matchprint proofs on a 2 colour press, I used a densitometer on the first two colours K and Y, then eyeballed the last two.

Very rarely I couldn't match and even then was still commercially acceptable.

Densitometers or Spectrodensitometers are used to measure standard densities, TVI or grey balance and trap values etc....
