    Halo Elwasila

    Yes, this is possible.

The error message 654 means the computer gave the order to move the backgauge. But after a short time the computer did not recognize any counting signals from the encoder, like the backgauge would not move.

If you start the reference run again, do you have other error messages? Or just 654.
If you start the reference run again, do you have at least any movement of the backgauge or none?
Do you know how to go to the Service menu? In the first window of the service menu you see a drawing of a cutter. There you can see the software version. I need the software version to guide you through all the windows on the screen. You can leave this window using the button “=” twice.
And it would be helpful if you can tell the machine number.

Afterwards we can test the backgauge movement without measurement. This gives an idea if the drive with the motor, limit switches, etc. works. Maybe we have here already the problem. We will see. The error 654 is complex but not difficult.

I have every year 1000 machines and more. And the good thing they are all brand-new.

    How many you want.

    Dear sir

thanks for the reply. and here the answers for the questions you asked:-

1- No there are no other errors except 654.

2- The backguage moves well and stops at the both ends.

3- The software version is 4.0.0.

    Best regards

    Halo Elwasila

Sorry my last questions weren’t so smart.

What do you see in the display after switching on the machine?
Is the machine asking for the reference run? I think yes, because this is the normal way.
You start the backgauge. When do you get the error message? Does the backgauge always stop on the way to the end of the tableand you start the backgauge again and again?
Or does the nackgauge move by itself all the way to the end of the table without any stop.
Or do you follow the instruction and your are in the so called auxiliary mode?
Auxiliary mode means in the display you have in the upper right corner a drawing of a backgauge. But there is no position shown on the screen. There is the text Auxiliary operation.

And I forgot to ask for an Email-address to send you information’s.

    Dear Sir

Sorry for answering you back through email, i tried signing in to the
forum but i couldn't, i believe there is a problem in signing in.
Anyway here the answers for your questions:

As you said when turning on the machine the machine asks for a reference point.

When moving the back guage it's stop before reaching the end and the
    error 654 appears.

My email is the one I'm using now which is: mohamed.elwasila@gmail.com.

    Halo Elwasila!

You have an information about the auxiliary mode. With this you can move the backgauge and you are able to cut.
And you can check the cable for the encoder.

If all this is okay, the encoder is broken. Then we have to see how we can help to get an encoder for a correct price. But this will be the next step.
First please check the cable of the encoder and the plug 23.
    Best regards

I also facing the same problem like Elwasila , error 654!!!
can you sent me the information about the Auxiliary operation?

also can you help me to get the encoder for a correct price?

    thank you

    Hi Long
Before it would be correct to send you something, we have to talk about some generell questions.
Which machine do you have? A Polar machine with the error message 654 can be a ED, E, ECO, NET, X, XT, EX, XS, MON, EM-MON, EMC-MON, N-plus, N-Pro, etc.
To give you a better idea where to look for it would be good to know in which situation the error shows up:
in generell and in the beginning of the backgauge movement
or at the end and just during the positioning.
    Best regards

    Hi coloured paper

It was Polar 115 E model. Basically it error message happen when at the beginning of the movement just after the break release the back gauge motor.
Just after that brake again and instantly motor stop and error appeared.

    Thank you
    Regards

    Hi Long

I hope you have now two information’s about the auxiliary function.
One is the instruction to switch on this function and the other is about the use.
The auxiliary function is just to check the drive for the backgauge without measurement.
After checking the pure drive you can try to do a reference run.
The error message 654 says the measurement system does not work. I think we will have more work to do before we know which part is broken.
Go to main menu, preset functions, machine setup, search reference position, scan reference position, confirm when table empty and start the backgauge.
After starting the backgauge you have some movement. The reference run is done automatically by the machine. After starting the backgauge you can watch the procedure.

We need to know if the direction of the backgauge is changing somewhere in the middle of the table? Or is the backgauge just going to end of the table. You can start the backgauge as often as you want.

    Good luck

    Dear Mr. Coloured Paper

I just have a problem with Polar 115E, error 654. after switch on the machine, it ask to scan reference position. and there is no movement of backgauge motor at all. Could you please give a solution? I already replace new encoder (BHF-16.24K2000-12-5 Baumer) and check plug 23, but still error 654.

    Thank You...

    Dear danieljs,

Error 654 is NO POSITION COUNTER IMPLUSES where the cause during an active backgauge run: if no or too few counting
pulses are received from the singal transducer the above error message will be output. This is done whenever the actual
speed of the backgauge falls below the nominal speed by 1/8.

please check the setting of the frequency conveter,
mechanical stiffness of the backgauge drive,
check / adjust backgauge drive motor with brake,
    frequency converter defective,
    check/ replace pulse generator,
    check cable routes/ connections,
    check / replace board SAP
    check / replace board CPxx
check proper connection on main terminals,
check the wirering to the limit switches in the clamp (S6,S218, S218b)
    check fuse F8

these are the possible check point and i would advice you start with checking the frequency converter
since you have already replace the pulse generator.

    good luck

    Dear Long,
    Thanks for your answer..

Finally I found the solution by myself
    1. I check brake Y17 no voltage.. It must be 24-30vdc
    2. I check plug SAP105 on board..it was broken
    3. I replace board 1 set, tighten encoder and setting proximity B341
    4. Scan reference position
    5. Done..

    Hi symmetry,

error 603 is knife possition error where knife movement is interrupted or not permitted for safety reasons. there are many possible reasons and to start with basic you may try to check the fuse F3 of voltage supply if knife upstroke control (MHS) as well as the cable that connect to main control box and make sure the the knife is in the top highest point. possible that your MHS is faulty.

error 654 is no posotion conunter impulses. During and active backgauge run, if no or too few counting pulses are received from the singal transducer the error message will be output.
check the pulse generator and the cable connection to the main control.
    also check the frequency converter.

please be advice that the job mention here is better to be perform by a qualified electrician. good luck,

    Hello @Long,
Im having 654 error in my polar 66. When switching on the machine it displays inmediately the Scan Reference Position screen, when trying to move the backgauge it doesn't move. I get the 654 code. I can only enter in auxiliary mode but can't move the backgauge. I have video

Could you please help me letting know what to do?
