Hi I have a printmaster 46 2 colour. I can move the image in and out of the grip but cannot get any bleed at the grip edge, although there is 3mm bleed on the plate. I have attached a pic (I think!) - newbie here...
    Appreciate any help with this

I don't think you're supposed to get bleed in the gripper but am not familiar with the Printmaster, so could be wrong?

What you have to do, is use a larger size paper, then make sure your cut marks in the gripper edge are shown. Is it possible to turn your image by 90 degrees, so that your bleed goes across the paper horizontally?

Hi - if a job bled all 4 edges it would need bleed in the grip edge - as many jobs do. The paper is SRA4 and the job is A4 and it needs to bleed at the grip edge, and there is 3mm bleed on the plate. It does not matter how far I move the image out of the grip it still will not bleed.

I just did a check on the Printmaster specs, depending on the version you have the gripper bite is between 7 or 8mm, that means you cant bleed into that area, is it not possible to move the whole image away from the gripper but retaining your cut marks on the tail edge of the sheet? SRA4 is 225mmx320mm and A4 is 210mmx297mm so you have a good 23mm to play with on your long edge. I'm assuming you're printing it in portrait mode?

No I am printing in landscape mode actually - and it does not matter how far back I move the image i cannot get any bleed in the grip edge (even if I trail the image off the back edge). Is there an adjustment for this on the machine or is the plate made incorrectly. I constantly need to bleed images in the grip edge thanks.

Yes it sounds like the plate doesn't have any bleed, the only other thing I can think of, has the blanket packing slipped out of the gripper?

One other thing, I looked at the image you posted, if you move the red back to register with the black, there is enough there to bleed with your cutter.

Like I said in my first email their is bleed on the plate
"although there is 3mm bleed on the plate"

The fact the red and black are not in register is of no consequence.

    It isn't blanket packing.

Anyone else have any clues with this one - help appreciated - thanks

I'm trying to help you here no need to be abrasive, that image you posted shows enough bleed if you line up the marks, yes it's close but it will work.

If you're saying you want ink where you have the word "grip".....not possible

lets try something to troubleshoot your problem.... ink up your entire plate without water. Now allow the press to go on impression on the questionable unit. Inspect the now inked up blanket and tell me if the blanket is taking ink right to the beveled edge where it transitions into the gap. Report your findings back here and we will see what we can do your you.

Hi turbotom - I think you have found the answer here. The plate is fully inked past my 3mm bleed. The blanket is only just inked past where the trim mark is. I can actually see this from the impression left on the blanked cyclinder and the still inked plate. So it would seem that the emage on the plate needs to be further back. It is currently 33.5mm from edge of print mark to the tick mark running paralell to the plate. Do you know how far back this should be I guess 40mm would be about right.
    WELL DONE...

Didn't I say to move the image back? Whether you do it on the machine or if you can't move it back on the machine, then it's laid down on the plate wrong.

    Fairly simple stuff.

rickoz, not sure how your model Heidelberg works but I'm gonna bet that you need to tumble the plate cylinder a bit. On the larger presses you can usually do this by opening access door on the gear side of the press and loosening all the bolts around the circumference of the plate cylinder drive gear. Once the gear bolts are loose you can insert the T wrench into the adjustment bolt and move the cylinder watching the scale until you get it where you need it to be. This may take a couple of attempts to get it perfect. Good luck and keep us updated.

hi turbotom, the circumferential is quite unusual on this machine - I know on the likes of GTO, MO and most presses you actually swing the cylinders by turning the gears with a wrench but on the printmaster you actually turn a knob on the delivery and both cylinders move together, but that doesn't solve the problem as the bleed does not increase. The problem is the position of the plate which I can easily have my platemaker change in the future. Once again thanks.

you image is too high ...3mm is not enough ..tell prepress you need closer to 1/4 inch!! (it is less but never a problem at .25") also make sure the packing is correct! I pack INCORECTLY BY placing the packing sheets further away from the lead
and increase the gripper gap to help combat lead edge inking!!! I also have the prepress dept. place the image lower on purpose to avoid delitons such as yours and use the press circumferential
adjustment to raise/move the image up on the sheet>
