Cleaning a delivery

Whats the best way of cleaning a delivery and how often should you clean?
I run a SM52 5 colour and clean the powder once a week with a hoover and then spray with WD-40. Been told by my manager that it should be done twice weekly.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

 

I think most operators do it way less.. even when they are owners....

 

Agree with Meny. Once every six months at average. This takes into consideration those that clean them once a year and those that clean them once a week (you being the only one I know of that does that).

 

I also agree with Meny. Twice a week wouldn't be out of line depending on your impressions per week. I have used everything from Rollerwash and compressed air , WD-40 , to a paint brush and air. The only down side to using anything oil based it gives the powder to adhere to.

 

lots of variables. A longer delivery will have more delivery gripper bars and not build up powder as quickly as a short delivery. If your aqueous coating all your jobs you can obviously use a lot less powder than if your not coating. Then theres the 1 shift verses 2 shift variable. Id say that an extended delivery press running aqueous coating on half of the jobs that print, in a 2 shift operation a once a week cleaning for the delivery is about right. Now when I say cleaning I'm just talking bout removing the powder. I don't feel its necessary to clean grippers with solvent and grease all the delivery bars every time you clean. Thats a job that id recommend be done once every 2 months.

 

Shop vac, Paint brush, Mineral oil and Metal brush.

When I used to work as a shop monkey this is what we used to clean deliveries on presses.

 

It depends on the work you are doing and the shifts you are running,
If you employer thinks you should be doing it more often then there may be reason for it a job may have been spoiled because snow bombs so he may be being cautious, I would certainly be appreciative of it as not all print houses are run the same, if you were in a different place you could be complaining that you don't get any maintenance time and the press is falling apart!
I set working practices to ensure that such maintenance is done weekly, so down time is managed and not unexpected and expensive a lesson I learned the hard way.

 

Once a week is great and stay away from WD-40 anywhere on a Heidelberg. You can use a very light lubricant on the delivery gripper bars but very sparingly, too much will end up attracting powder. WD-40 will end up evaporating and then you are worse off than you were before.
