    Hi,
Our company is looking to purchase this machine in a few months time. I may well be the main operator of the machine and was wondering if anyone could advise me on a few queries i have.We have Igen3,a 1000 and Nuvera 144's at the moment but we expect this new machine to open up new markets to us.
Is the machine reliable when printing on plastic materials.
How is it when trying to match Pantones ?
When sales say the toner is laser safe, is this 100% correct.
Can light weight NCR and 100gsm stock be ran without jams/misfeeds.
How does it handle envelope printing ?
How labour intensive is it ( i think it maybe more similar to a litho press than digital machine).
Does running the maximum 1020mm width create problems ?
How often does maintenance need to be carried out ?
Any other tips/warnings or general comments welcome.

    Congrats on great choice :)
We have DP60, so i cant comment exactly on DP8700, but i will reply to you from our DP60 perspective:
    1. How is it when trying to match Pantones ?
Only problem is when we try to match anything close to RED

    2. When sales say the toner is laser safe, is this 100% correct.
    Yes, correct.

    3. Can light weight NCR and 100gsm stock be ran without jams/misfeeds.
We dont have any problems with that. 75gsm can sometimes jam when using offset feeder, but that happens very rarely and we ware not able to find the cause of that, but as I said - its a rare situation.

    4. How does it handle envelope printing ?
Great :) But dont get that envelope addon, its useless if u dont print massive amounts of them.

    5. How labour intensive is it ( i think it maybe more similar to a litho press than digital machine).
Depends on what exactly you are asking. If you are asking for printing operation - its very easy. Just add you material/paper to offset feeder and forget about it :) For servicing - yes it's a bit more tricky when compared to Xerox machines but we have our inhouse technicians who take care of things. Changing or resource usually takes up to 6h with all the cleaning, swaping and readjusting.

    6. Does running the maximum 1020mm width create problems ?
Sorry i can not comment on this.

    7. How often does maintenance need to be carried out ?
I cant comment on DP8700 maintenance as we use DP60, but for example we print double the amount on the resource then MGI is stating officially and the quality is just fine. So u can go a bit longer then MGI actually wants u to :)

    extended down time

we have a dp8700 in the "far east" ( singapore ) as of 1st week of july our press is down till now. electronic issues with the circuit boards. As of 29 july we are still waiting on new circuit boards. Apparently they are going to arrive on friday 31 july only shipped from factory 27 july. I am wondering why it has taken so long for replacement parts. So from 1st week of july till 4 week of july we have not done any printing which has caused irreparable damage to our business. I cant recommend enough that you dont only have 1 machine in your shop or you will be suffering if the one machine you have is out of action.

We have a dp8700 XL and a dp8700 S. The quality is next to none on all substrates. We run all sizes no problems.
100 % laser safe toner yes. Biggest issue, not sure about the UK, is parts and service. Terrible response & wait time for both
which is a loss of revenue. Maybe not for the UK ? Quality is the best our clients rave about it. Maintenance depends your volume and how good your operator is also. Swapping the units is easy. Operation is easy again with a good operator.
