Has anyone had xerox service retrofit their docucolor 2xx?

A service tech called me and told me that they are going to retro fit my machine? Is this a nice way of saying that they are going to turn down my (fuser, drum, and etc) settings and thus lower the quality of prints?

If the quality of print decreases, how much will they decrease?

Please help for my peace of mind.

What makes you fear that they're wanting to turn down the quality of your machine vs. improving something? (I don't have much experience with Xerox yet, but so far I've been happy with every dealing with them so far.)

Are there any outstanding issues on your machine? At first I thought you might have a 240/250 that they might be retrofitting some of the improvements from the later models to, but I see in another thread you have a brand new 242 so I'm also confused by this post.

    Keep us posted.

Actually, The tech shot me straight, hopefully... I think the retrofit was for the corotron and the fuser. He said that he adjusted the warning message for the life of the equipment. He said that he had not adjusted the quality. I have not noticed any change in quality yet, but I have only printed 1 color piece since the "retro fit" I will update on this thread at a later time when I have several more samples for comparison.

The problem I had initially with my machine was that I fed a bad batch of paper with glue on the edges and that caused all types of problems with jamming, IBT Belt, and 3 color drums. Now that I have that fixed and realized that I will never EVER EVER EVER by Sterling gloss text EVER again even if I am in a pinch and have to wait 2-3 days on my main supplier for paper.

I am happy with Xerox service thus far, I was just a little worried..because why would a brand new assembled machine need a retrofit?

And, to let you guys know that I have a brand spanking new 242 with only 22k clicks in 2 weeks.

Good to hear (as a fellow 242 user). I did notice my machine prompted me to change the charge corotron at around 75,000 11x17 with no visible print quality issue or advantage to putting the new one in, but it looks like a fairly cheap part so I just complied and set the old one aside for a spare for now.

Very interesting to hear about the Sterling gloss too -- I just ran a few reams of 100# Sterling Ultra Gloss last week and thought the quality was extremely good (better quality print on the 242 than Mohawk Gloss for me and about the same print quality as Hammermill Gloss but with a slightly preferable stiffness and feel to me). I was thinking of buying a couple cartons of it this week -- I'll have to take a really close look first.

The best gloss text weight stock I've found is 90# C2S Kromekote, but it's really expensive so I'm looking for some less expensive options that still have a decent match in the gloss level of the toner areas to pure white areas of the sheet.

Yes, please email or post up on here if you find a better looking sheet. How much per/M is that 90# kromekote gloss text that you speak of? I am definately interested in something more glossy. Sometimes, I buy my paper in press sheet 28 x 40 or 26 x 40 and trim out to 13 x 19 to save money.

A lot - I don't have a source for the kromekote 90# c2s other than retail at $160/m !!! It's the glossiest I've found in a cut sheet, but priced high!

I'll found out if my source in Indianapolis can get a press sheet if so, I'll order some and then hit you up to see if you want to buy it after I cut it down to size. I'm sure I can get it around 120 or so perM if I buy enough if retail is 160

I had my Doc250 retrofitted after about 300k clicks and we had no loss of quality, but it did fix an annoying fuser error we kept having. Now, if they could get our duplexing anywhere near accurate, I'd be blasted happy. I'd say go right ahead, since they're probably just fixing issues that they didn't catch in the initial product testing. It's like a service pack for your copier.
