    Hello,

I am new to this forum and to the offset world. I have had an AB Dick 9810 at my office for the last 4 years.

It's a great work horse for 1 and 2 color jobs. But I need something that can lay down more solid ink coverage and more accurate registration and alignment.

My pressman mentioned a multi 1650 EX with a tower.

Wanted to get some other opinions on what you all might recommend?

    Thank you

Go with a Ryobi 3302. There are decent used one all over the place for decent prices. Get one of those and don't look back!

Any used Heidelberg GTO 52 will handle anything you throw at it. Plus they last forever with proper care.

We have had good success with our ryobi 3302, with compacts on it. I have worked with many different machines over the years. Most machines register well, longing you take care of them. If you have several operators and/or rotate operators, you might look into the water system. I am fond of the compacts because you don't have to train operators a lot to use them.
Most machines that register well usually have a feed table, some direct feed machines do OK but if you ever have a third color you are in trouble unless you have enough trap.
I have heard many complaints on a pull guide systems such as the older hamada 700 series presses, the better option is a push guide system.
Remember what ever press you buy, if you can run it, you are doing well. If only one of your operators can run it ( because they run one before) , if they leave your company, you just bought a boat anchor.....

I agree that a Ryobi would be a good choice. If you are in the central US I know of several as well as a 3304h which is pristine sitting in a corporate shop with less than 5 million impressions!! The user is anxious to sell and will train as a part of negotiation.

Depending on the amount to invest? The presses recommended all have register platforms increasing set-up time and larger area needed. For tight registration an addition of a T-51 second color unit onto the 9810 that you already own and proper maintenance as on any press can satisfy most needs. The S-1 with its 3 ink form rollers and adjustable pressures between oscillators can lay down some nice solids. The A/E models with the on the fly skewing, circumferential, and side-to-side adjustments make set-ups with just a few sheets of make-ready. Any of these can up your quality and set-up time to be more profitable with a minimum investment.
