    Hi,

I am designing a book for an artist and thinking to print it with stochastic screening technology. But I am wondering how I need to prepare my images. Previously I worked only with printers who use the standard screen. So I prepared my images with 300 DPI resolution with some sharpening adjustment in Photoshop. In Stochastic screening, since the dots are a lot smaller and denser than AM screening, it may be necessary to use higher resolution images and use different image sharpening amount. If you have knowledge in this area, I would like to get some advice.
Also, how widely used is this method in the USA, in DC area to be specific?

Been running FM screens (stochastic) for years, best screen out there. Like AM screening the better the image to work with the better it will turn out. The conversion is done at the rip in the plating process, just make sure your files are CMYK and not RGB.

    Some more questions

Thank you very much for the input. I would like to clarify few things. Is there optimum Raster resolution for the FM screening, such as 400, 600, or 1200? For the standard AM screening it is 300 dpi. And do I need to prepare images for the print? Most people don't know that it is necessary to prepare images for the standard AM screen printing. But it makes a lot of difference if the images are sharpened and color adjusted. How about in FM screening. Do I need to sharpen the image?

I didn't understand well of which conversion you are talking. Are you talking about conversion to FM screen?

Also, can you suggest any paper for the high quality fine art book? I know that I want coated paper that has smooth matte surface with good brightness.
