    First time post -

Hello everyone, I am farely new, (about 3 years now) into the printing industry and am looking to invest up to $10,000 dollars for a digital printer/press that I can bring some small run jobs inhouse. (I currently outsoruce to a national wholesale print company). I mostly focus on marketing collateral like business cards, postcards, brochures, flyers, posters and my printer really only sells offset volume (1,000pcs and high) on most jobs. I frequently get asked for smaller quantities for posters and flyers and brochures, etc so thinking its time to serve that underserved market.

I have looked at a couple diffrent models but non of them have all the features I am looking for all in one printer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    1. High Yield with low Cost Per Page *MOST IMPORTANT
    2. Must do up to 312gsm. (16pt Cardstock)
    3. Must do Tabloid A4 (prefferably A3 12X18) for posters
    4. 1200X1200 or higher DPI
    5. Must be $10,000 or lower. Can maybe can go up a grand or two if need be).

Ive looked at the following machines:

Xerox Phaser 7800: CPP is crazy high! too high to make any profit. nice 350gsm.

Ricoh c821DN: Nice machine but only goes up to 256gsm. Best CPP at about .28cents per page.

Konica Monitoba c364: Nice machine. Tops out at 300gsm. really dont need MFP.

HP CP6015: Highest Weight is 58lb bond

    Oki965dn: 307gsm. not bad backine

Lexmark: C950: max 300gsm. decent CPP.

Hi, I've had a Xerox Workcentre 7335 some time ago, which is based on Xerox Phaser 7760 paying 2c for b/w and 10c color any size.... We would print everything 2 up, cut in half and have 5 cents per ltr size which is not bad at all....
You can, most likely, talk to xerox about per click all inclusive service contract, just be aware that 7800 has a "S" like paper path, same as 7760 - it is a bindery nightmare especially on coverstocks - after being bent trough the printer so much, stock never lays flat, but out of your list this printer will give best Print quality.
Ricoh, KM, HP and lexmark you had mentioned are most likely just an office printers, they may be a good office printers but check other specs like RAM size, if there is an HDD, what is resolution... If you're in printing industry, it should be 1200 dpi otherwise there is a good chance that competitor down the block will always be printing better than you are....
Oki is not bad - straight paper path, flat sheet every time, I own both Phaser 7760 and OKI. There are some downsides - they don't like glossy stocks - printer would put slight background haze on unimaged areas but can duplex 12x18 on 100# index, where I am not sure that xerox can.
I print quality demanding / glossy paper jobs on Xerox and everything uncoated on OKI.
If you have a $10K budget, you could probably throw another grand or two more and get nice, used Konica-Minolta C5501 or C6501 which under contract should cost you 8c per max size sheet and most like will over perform and last longer that your entire list combined.

UnlimitedBT, I see that you are quite the print guru, lol, Im interested in jumping into the digital print realm, similar to what PrintRush posted I to, need a similar machine, with the same specs that he listed. My search has brought me to the xerox 7800DN and the 7500DT, I have gotten quotes from xerox and the cpp for the 7800 for color is around .14 and for the 7500 its around .09 so Im leaning that way because it seems to be a better printer. Im going to be printing 250gsm+ postcards, tickets and other marketing material. Do you think these are good machines to use for my situation?

You can get a click charge 40 - 60% lower if you lease a machine in the $35k to $50k range. The math all depends on how much volume you plan to print.

Hi cbrgraphics, the 7500 and 7800 are nice machines, they share the same print engine but 7800 is a little fancier, they both print very nice. And should be a nice fit to what you want to do, I am assuming that you're being realistic about run lengths you plan on putting on it. Currently we have phaser 7500 with 18,000 pages on the meter, It has 4 trays + By pass. CMY inks are low but I am adding OEM Xerox CMY inks on the side besides those that already installed. Price is $1800. We have a local buyer after it but did secure the transaction yet so first come - first served. I'd out that you'd be willing to come pick-up from NC which is the best thing to do (my experience shows that all copiers/printers don't like to be moved) but shipping should not cost all that much. Let me know if you're interested - UnlimitedBT@yahoo.com

Duplexing is major factor, but as far as print runs in the 7800, the average job will be somewhere around 115, prints of 100lb cover A3(13x18). That 7500 your offering sounds like a pretty good deal, I will think heavily about that. What do you think shipping to zip 27510 would cost? Also, do you know of a decently priced paper cutter that would handle 11x7 to 13x18?

Let me know what do you have in mind please - I have a lot of printers in stock...
Phaser 7760, phaser 7500, phaser 7400, Oki C9800 GA, OKI ES-3640e MFP, OKI CX3641, Konica Minolta C353P (less than 300 pages on this one)- these are all 12x18 floor models plus we have 3-4 smaller units that do LT+LG only - Phaser 6700 with only 100 pages on it, few Konica Minoltas, half a dozen of OKI 560plus MFP and probably more.

If you considering a Phaser 7500 / 7800, these are $5000+ printers, OK 7500 may be a little less :) $1800 should be more than reasonable + 3 ink cartridges that do cost enough to be mentioned and sweeten the deal. Printer was activated on Sept 24 2012 which means it should be under warranty till Sept 24, 2013 which is also a big plus. Shipping should run $250-300 -ish, I can check exactly how much on Monday.

If you can afford to - stick with polar / heidelberg, 26 inch wide could be found for $9000-12000. We had a 22 inch wide cutter, full power -clamp and blade - Triumph / MBM, I think, but when bought a Polar 66 few years ago, yes, it was more than $10,000 but it is night and day, programming feature is really useful.
