I am runnig a QMDI Classic and when it advances plates there is a gap of about
20 inches form one image to the next. So as a result of this the rolls are runnig out when the press think there should be at least 12 plates left on the roll.
I simply can't afford this, can anyone please help me?

Do you advance plates by hand now and than, or install new roll and reset counters and let the press advance plates for each job.

another question, has it always done this since you got the machine? if not , one of your settings had to have gotten changed. I'm checking around to see if anyone else had this problem on all the units. it almost sounds like you are trying to burn a double set on one burn. I'm sure you only hit the burn button one time.

Sometimes if I can't advance my plates by hand.I have to put the press into inch mode before I am able to unlocked the plate material.to advance by hand.

In almost all of the instances I have seen this happen have been in cases where at some point the rolls were advanced manually. Once this has been done you are no longer able to image and hope to have them automatically advance. The reason for this is the machine has now way of knowing how much plate material you have advanced when you did it manually.

The first thing I did when I went out on these type of calls is remove all of the plate material in all of the units, cut new tabs, measure the rolls, put the new values in the press and image. As I mentioned before, in nearly all instances this fixed the problem.

As for your not being able to manually advance the plates, that may be due to the clutch mechanism on the manual plate winding motors. It may be worn and slipping. If you hear the motor running, yet the gear is not turning, there is your problem.

My input to Paul's answer is only that:" not being able to manually advance the plates" is quite normal at the end of the roll. This mechanism is not constructed for winding almost whole roll of used material. If you insist to do it, you have to relase step by step fresh plate pushing it with your fingers.

i have this problem since 8 months ago i have no idea we checked the cluthes, change plates, change valors to plates but nothing works, i still moving the plates by hand and it WAY SO MUCH BETTER trust me if you can move it by hand you will get like 40-45 plates instead just 35 its something im not supposed to say but it really workes for me, btw if someone have an idea of this problem i'd like to know too.

and something else, is there a way to say the machine the slipping length? the number of revolutions or something that control the menchanism to make the plate slip less (must be a manteniance dos option if im right) if someone have a remote idea of how to do it please say it to me ill search more of it

ps. im sorry for my terrible grammar and bad english hehe

If you wind the plates by hand you are probably having registration issues, they will start to creep. It does not pull them as tightly as the auto wind process.

There is not. The plate cylinder is stationary.
