    I use both an Epson Stylus 7800 & 9800.
    I absolutely love them!

The 7800 goes up to 24" and we primarily use it for proofing purposes. It is calibrated to our presses using EFI Software. Prints look amazing.
The 9800 is a monster up to 44". I've printed on everything from Proofing paper too Canvas.
We use it for Signs, Posters, Banners....Pretty much everything. The only Issue that I have is you're pretty much limited too epson papers which can get expensive. We've tried a couple kodak rolls but it didn't turn out too well. There are other options though, you just have to look.

All 'n all I wouldn't give them up for anything. Color Printing has never looked better ;)

I recently bought a Stylus Pro GS6000 and it is an amazing 64" machine! As of January of this year Epson is now building this machine in-house; they were previously built by Mutoh. My understanding is that Epson has made some changes that will require some time to work out some bugs in the new version of this machine. My machine is Mutoh built and my primary use is in the vinyl graphics business. I have been producing cut vinyl graphics for the past 22 years and am now making the move into producing printed graphics for decals and vehicle wraps. I know that there are many opinions about every brand and model of machine and most are based on personal experience. Often times, people have a bad experience with what is normally a good machine and they become forever "against" that machine and/or brand...... so I say keep that in mind. If you do enough research you should be able to come to a reasonable concensus on the quality and pertinent information about any particular machine. I have found that there is a vast amount of users and posted information about their experiences! It requires some diligence and patience to sift through it and I recommend trying to speak directly to someone who is using your machine of choice in your chosen application. For my purposes and intent, I believe my GS6000 is as good of a choice as any and I especially like the 8-color availability to produce some out of the ordinary colors. Another bonus of this machine is the standard 950mL ink cartridges with hot-change capability. I have customers that require large decals for semi-trailers and it is nice to not have to deal with frequent ink cartridge replacement. The auto take-up reel is also a nice feature when producing long graphics. A final note about Epson....... many brands of high quality printers are using Epson print heads!

    I hope this helps!

Depending on what type of banners/signage your doing, the large Epson printers are the best option. Epson has discontinued the GS model, but still have a few refurbished ones available. The newest models of Solvent are the S30/S50/S70. S30 has been out for about a month or 2. The other 2 are just now coming out for purchasing and is a faster version from the GS. S30 also has less ink than GS (4 color printer). The S50/S70 will be more to get a high color gamut, but still quicker.

Contact us if you have any questions regarding these. We have a service rep and printer tech that can assist you.

We used a 7800 printer for about 6 years and replaced it with an HP Z3200.

The Epson is a very well tempered machine and it gave trouble-free service but it drank ink. It printed happily on every paper and canvas we ever tried.

The HP has a built-in spectrophotometer so it's easy to work with new papers but it can be a real pain to use. Loading and unloading paper has to be done from front-panel button-pushing because it prints a barcode identifier on the end of the roll. Working with sheet material can be a nightmare because it demands a re-load if alignment isn't perfect. The HP is incompatible with certain papers and, in some cases, the ink doesn't soak in properly.

For a photographer, 12 inks give a much better result than 8 and the gloss enhancer can eliminate bronzing.
