I have been running a Igen for about 4 years. We are on our second machine and it is just as bad as our first one. We run only one shift and I spend more time down then running. Anybody else stuck in hell with me?

What I wouldn't give to have your machine. Try working on something smaller if you think you've got it bad :)

Ha ha yeah I guess it could always be worse. We had a Docu Color 5000 prior to this and that thing was awesome. I was trying to see if I got two lemons or if everybody else is having better luck then me. But yeah it is a great machine when it works properly and it could always be worse.

I believe that is our main problem we do start and stop all day long. We really have no need for this big of a machine. We get a bigger run every now and again but my cut off qty is 2000 sheets unless its variable because it is cheaper to run offset at that point. I think all of the start stop is hard on these machines and leads to constant issues.

This is digital printing. Regular service comes with the job.

I am not talking about regular service, I am talking about having a tech here every day if not every other. That in my eyes is a inferior product. If your car broke down everyday you would start to get a little annoyed. I have been doing this for years I am well aware of routine maintenance and service.

If you in the business long enough, you will encounter a machine that is being a 'turd'. The technicalities involved with these machines is quite great, meaning that there will always be something to worry about and some machine on the fritz.

We have on site technicians simply because our business relies on these machines working properly. Unfortunately the machines don't often agree making these on site fixers a necessity.

seems very wierd to me you have all that downtime, i run as operator on 2 igen3's and cannot recognize that picture. We do have a onsite tech aswell, but he doesnt uses very much time on urgent problems at the igen3's

I have a tech here approx. once every two weeks on my igen4. The igen3 was much more problematic, but once you get the feel for the 4, it's fairly routine. It's possible that some manufacturing defects can cause issues on a new machine. You have to be thorough with Xerox and they will do the same. Keep records of everything. Be kind, but persistent. If you have a recurring problem that is not getting fixed and is causing your business to suffer, tell them that. In my experience, they have been very understanding. Xerox is far from perfect, but overall they give good service and are easy to work with. Same goes with their machines.

Extremely well worded. Rich's statement should be taken to heart by all.

I have been getting the feel for the four for 4 years. Both machines in my opinion are down way too often. Oh well I guess it is what it is and I will just deal with it. I just wanted to see if anybody else had the same experiences as me.

talking of cars earlier if you run a car start drive for a mile switch it off and so forth! this regular driving will cause condensation build in the block and all sorts of problems occur,if you constanly run on motorways or freeways you seem to blow the engine through and a lovely little car youve got just a thought

Lee I know where you are coming from. Don't let people like Xfactor influence your opinion either. My honest opinion is Xfactor works for Xerox.
I wouldn't listen to anything that came from that guy he is so fake. Take it from me the Igens are problematic machines. If you are constantly trying
to get offset quality you will run into issues. The Igens run well when maintained the problem is they don't run well for very long. And problems come from every direction. You can leave at night and your machine was running fine. Come in the next morning with issues. It's a finicky machine with no rhyme or reason for some of the issues. Also If you have similar experience the tech's half the time are cluless as well.

As I said before to you when you posted the same garbage, I don't work for xerox.
I don't think you have the printing background with other digital machines to have an unbiased opinion. If you came up on other digital machines and actually printed on them day in and day out, you would have a different perspective. If you discover a perfect digital machine that puts the igen to shame and doesn't have problems, please let me know.

As a Xerox Tech here in the UK I take offence to that. As for your "they don't run very long" I have just returned to an iGen4 that has done 1.4million prints since the last service call that I attended.

The iGen is only as good as the operator in my experience

Yes, iGen's like any other machine can be a hand full. Without proper maintenance and a well trained operator you can have issues every day. We had an operator that will have problems from feeder to stacker on a daily basis. He would place a service call and Xerox Tech could not duplicate problem 9 out of 10 times.
