My company is looking at purchasing a high volume printer - we have narrowed the choice down to a Canon, a Xerox and a Ricoh. I'm looking for feedback regarding down time/problems with printer, quality of print, pros/cons, etc from current users of these 3 printers:

    Canon imagePress C7010VP
Xerox 800 Color Press & Xerox 700i Digital Press (Xerox quoted 1 of each model)
    Ricoh Pro C901S

Thank you for any feedback - positive or negative!

    Hi,

We have none of these but have looked at the Xerox 800, the Ricoh and the Canon 6010 and we purchased the 6010. We also own a Xerox 700 but aren't using it much since we bought the 6010. I would almost suggest that you buy 2 x 6010 instead of a 7010vp.

Depending on the type of stock you will be running through your machine and the amount of it each machines has its plus and minuses. Canon has been good for us with the help of their technicians. We put 1,000,000 clicks on it in the first 6 months and the Canon tech are here weekly to maintain and tweak the machine. We have had issues with the environment (too hot, not humid enough) and are still ironing out these issues.

The Canon has a nice glossy finish that the Xerox 700 cannot produce.
The Canon does not jam as much as the Xerox 700.

Dealing with the supplies reordering is much easier when you call Canon than when you call Xerox... Xerox has to smooth out the process....

All and all, Xerox has a good product but it is expensive, much more expensive than Canon.
Xerox's equipment seams more reliable and require less maintenance... Take under consideration that we do not use our Xerox half as much as our Canon...

Let me know if you want more feedback

    Hello Vangard1,
I have run a Xerox 800 and a Canon ImagePress C7010VP. My opinion is that both have good color output for color images, the Xerox having a better neutral gray, the Canon has a slight magenta cast. I believe the Xerox has a better duplex capabilities for better registration, the Canon is no slouch either. Both can be a pain if the stock is not right to it's liking. Both can duplex 150 gsm which is very nice, not sure the Ricoh can do that. I think the Xerox cost more in click charges than the Canon and the Canon is cheaper. The Xerox has a chiller which is a good feature. The Canon output is hot to the touch which may lead to bindery problems. Offline folding was sometimes a problem with Canon because the paper tore easily. Certain papers that we used did not bode well so I suggest you do a test with your papers to check this out. I have had more paper jams on the Xerox than the Canon, but the Xerox can print on more substrates. In the Los Angeles area, the callback and service times were equal. I was part of a two person team for the purchase of the Xerox over other digital presses at the time do to registration, different substrates that we printed, speed and color. I think I had less trouble with the Canon (output, not bindery), color was consistent after calibration, the Xerox would fluctuate even after calibration. I hope this helped, please let me know what you think.

    Xerox Color Press 800/1000

I am in the process of replacing my Konica Minolta C7000P, and looking into getting the Xerox Color Press 1000.

I did some registration tests, by starting with the Full With Array, (which gave good results), however, when I imaged my custom created registration image, the registration was off by 1/16".

Does the machine center register the image on the page, or does it uses the left side for the registration reference.

Any other feedback, or things to watch for before committing would be appreciated.

Also, this monthly base fee of $1,250/$1,500 (ColorPress 800/1000) is way over priced. What is the deal with that. Can that price be negotiated?

This is interesting..and its no wonder we pay the insurance rates we do.,I have a new Canon imagepress 7010vp never ever set up in my warehouse that had a few dings in rear panels and was inspected throughout as perfect yet paid as a claim So perfect, SO MUCH less than any dealer if anyone is interested. Brand new, touch screen never mounted, stilll in box, and all orange tape inside and foam paddings, never been plugged in or seen electricity.. Just became available,,,if anyone uses
a Canon 7010 VP now, you know the advantage of taking the one you have with millions on them an putting this in place.. when i say new, I simply mean new, no toner in it...never ran a single piece of paper, photos available. It's strange that I don't see these even available used in the marketplace, however I figured this was a good place to start and let its availability known amongst digital press people. This is the first notification of this unit.

Based on observation since one of my friend is on printing industry, Xerox 800 color press works better compared to Canon. It could operate for a long time without tearing the papers.

    Pre-press nut!

My company was using for 5 years a Kodak M700. This box was the same as the canon 6000. We were forced to remove the device because of two reasons. 1. Kodak was saying after 5 years that they would no longer service the box. 2. the max life (20 million) impressions had been met, and the machine was getting close to the end of the life.

We went with the Canon7010vp. Could not be happier. We have had the press on the floor for 2 weeks and have already put 150,000 impressions on it. Only one jam for the entire time. Service tech's are awesome, product runs seem-less. I run 19x13 paper all day long, and this press just runs. It is such an advancement from the Xerox and Ricoh. We looked at both and found that Canon has perfected this space in the digital market. I am using the Creo server which allows perfect color on every sheet. The M700 was using nexPert, and it had serious limitations for color consistency.

Overall, I would recommend the ImagePRESS7010vp. Exceptional quality at an exceptional value!

What kind of volume are looking at?
We throw about 50,000 impressions a week at our 7010 and it always has trouble keeping up with our volume.
Fusers wear out around 40% of their actual lifespan, cleaning station fails on it, etc.
