my preference for temp. is closer to 65f Not sure that is the "norm" but I've found that on longer runs with the press up near its highest speeds 65 to 66f seems to work best at keeping things clean. Id be looking more at your plate, ink, fountain solution combination. Also are you starting your fountain solution mix with R.O. water? In some areas with inconsistent water coming out of the faucet you need to eliminate these inconsistencies by treating your water supply. Reverse osmosis is the best treatment i know of to insure repeatability.

We run RO water. There is a bit of feed back on to the water meter rollers on this press. The press next to it has a lot fewer problems with this. Its the same machine with the exception being they run Chameleon rollers. (the water meters are of the same material). Currently I am looking at things global to each machine.

hi just a question is the tinting starting at the back of the plate or from the lead edge? if at the back check that your packings trail edge is cut of flush with the end of the cylinder and not overhanging the edge

How would this look on the sheet? I suspect that it is over the tail edge. Need to check it out. Thanks.

Bad Plates, I ran into this problem 25 years ago. This kind of problem will show its ugly head every so often and have people looking at everything else except the true culprit.

Thanks. It does appear that some plates are more prone to this than others.

Get yourself one of those laser thermometers and check the rubber meter roller, it should be close to 60 degrees f. Do not use the laser on chrome and do not try to "shoot" through the openings in the guards. (both will give you false readings) Adjust your tank until the rubber roller is at the desired temp, temp is lost in the lines. Also, it could be an issue of not having enough gum in your fountain solution. The gum from the processor wears off after 5 to 8,000 impression then the gum in the fount takes over.
One other quick and easy thing to try is to back off the 4th ink form from the plate to where you just have the lightest stripe. (maybe 2mm)
