My company is getting ready to put rollers in our 6/c heidelberg. As with everything today there are issues on pricing. I have contacted several vendors that I have dealt with in the past and now I am asking for feedback on some issues. My crews rave about Bottcher- I have used Roto-Dyne before and there is Pacesetter- and American on the list.
Anyone want to comment on this thread please feel free to do so,I believe that all rollers wil perform IF treated correctly and that is the point I am trying to drive home to my press crews.

I know in some ways commenting is like comparing apples to oranges because we run half webs. We are tough on rollers and I know my guys will take a short cut or two. What I did find is at one time we were able to get a more economical roller, but even with decent maint, they seem to need a lot of adjustment and did not last as long. We were spending a lot of money, in lost productivity, and paper waste. A good roller should last, but there are cheapy ones that will cost you in other areas. We went back to our original roller company.

I like the bottcher rollers in the ink train but think the pacesetter water rollers run better. Thats my set up for what its worth.

We have run & tested a set of Bottchers, Akorns & Rota Dynes in a CD 102 which runs both UV and conventinal inks. About 60% conv and 40% UV. This was run on a 7 color press so we put a new set of rollers in units 3, 4 & 5 because these unit are being used all the time. We are a short run shop with a lot of wash ups possible 10+ wash ups in 24 hour period. After a 18 months the Rota Dynes were done. The Akorns were not questionable, could have used them in a pinch and the Bottchers I put them back in and used them as transfer roller and put in new ink forms. When it comes to dampning we had nothing but problems with Rota Dyne pan roller & dampner forms. Lows spots and tapering off on the ends the durometer go really soft whih resulted in really low water speeds. in a verrrrry short time. We only run Bottchers when it comes to dampning and yes they are not cheap but little to no issues.

Go with Bottcher and you won't have problems as with other type of rollers. We have try a couple of different type of rollers in our CD 102 and Rolands but Bottcher are far away before all others only Westland are close to them.
