Would a solid ink printer be a better choice for printing heavy card stock and postcard weight paper than a color laser printer?

Most likely yes, but forget about glossy stock. And no there are no solid ink printers that can do 11x17

Simon - what specific ricoh gell printer will print on postcard weight stock? The specs seem to indicate only very light cardstocks and they seem inferior to lasers even for heavy stock handling if I'm reading the specs on ricoh's site correctly :(

As long as you don’t intend to do glossy ones, a solid ink printer should be fine. Honestly though, I’d go with a color laser printer. They are much more versatile and you are likely to get more use out of it.
