Hello, I was wondering how many companies allowed their pressmen to play music while working. What's the policy where you are?

In my previous shop, the presses ran 24 hrs a day 3 days a week and 8 hours a day on Monday and friday. After normal business hours, I let "rock the house down" - as long as the work did not suffer. During normal hours, the radio could be at the same level as the equipment was around them, and when I came over to talk, the adio went off. At the company I work at now, the presses run the same schedule but no radio is not allowed, never has and never will.
    2 companies, 2 differnt answers.

i have been running presses for over thirty years in various shops and ilove the radio i noticed that in shops where the
music was not allowed the moral was low and the pressroom was less productive. and the folks who worked there
could not wait to get the hell out of there everyday. with benifits being reduced as well hours being cut/who wants to
work in a place where they dont allow music they will just make it easier for the talent to walk if they get they chance
    long live rock and roll

i dont mind the radio on, not to loud though, when the press is running you can bearly hear it anyway, but its nice to have some background noise when changing or making plates. i would not allow headphones though as i do feel they are a health and safety risk.

We have a guy on third that has a radio that shakes powder off the conduit on the ceiling...no joke, it snows a lot when he plays it loud. We have had it both ways, and found that the radio off does hurt morale and the urge to do a nice quality job with a sense of pride and efficiency.
