We are looking into the possibility of color printing matte tyvek wristbands - (with adhesive and silicone liner at back of one end) on an Indigo or similar digital press. Anyone has ideas on this?

I think the most viable is to do normal printing, and then complete the finishing of the product.
Since the substrate is not flat, digital machines that work with fusion comes around 240 degrees temperature, it can happen silicone sticking to the drum or other machine.
But if you have somewhere to test it costs nothing ...

    It can be done

I have seen Tyvek printed on a Hp indigo with GREAT results.

I dont think conventional toner based digital processes will work due to the fuser temp.

The self adhesive will be part of your "finishing" process.

    Cheers,

There is absolutly no probs to print on Tyvek as long as the surface tension is right. Depending on your supplier you might have to treat the surface with Topaz or digiprime. We even print on Tyvek thats exactly the same as the protection on the Pips on a HP7500.
