Hi everyone, I am looking at buying a Heidelberg DI 46 Plus 2000 Model, but I am worried because I see the colors to come out very dark and with no contrast, I would like to know if there´s a way to fix the problem just by calibrating the diodes on the units or changing the color profile. They are using Shapira dry ink and temperature of 19 degrees celcius in the shop.

    Thank you for your advice!

Without actually seeing the issue you are describing I cannot fully comment on what it would take to fix it.

However, I can tell you the first thing I would have them do is perform the 60% screen job and take a look at how far out the diodes are. If they are out badly you can have problems with color very easily.

There are also ink characteristic curves that should be set based on the type of ink you are using in the machine at the time. If the wrong profile is chosen your ink converage may be dark.

    Good luck.

    How would I know?

Hi Paul, thank you very much for your input, I know there is a formula measuring densities from a gaft color bar for a 100% ink coverage and a 80% screen, D100-D80/D100=something less than .35 to be ok, is that what would be needed to be done?
If the problem are the diodes how much $$$ do you think will be needed to get the machine to print correctly?

Hi there as the story from paul ,printing a 60% screen is the best way to check your machine.
I use to run a pro version. My dot was perfect, color absolute not dark, using the right software and a person who
    knows pre-press will help you.
If you want more info please feel free.
I also have 4 new diodes for sale and shaphira quikplate rolls for sale.
    regards.

Thank you Sjors, I ceirtanly will proof with 60% screen to make sure the diodes are running correctly. I have read each unit has 16 diodes, is that information correct? How much are the diodes in euros or USdollars? Thank you for your support!!!

BTW PBandjelly there is quiet abit of adjustment can be done on your diodes varying density's you only replace them once you go outside that range.

Also if you ever have a failed diode you can disable it from the menu and the diodes at either side fill in the missing area
(this is a short term solution because the other ones will be working twice as hard and shorting their lifespan.)

I would think is more of a calibration issue on the rip.
try imaging at diferent resolutions: 1270dpi and 2540dpi if you should notice a huge diference between the two then your curves for each colour need to be set.. then i suggest you get a densitometer, print a calibration sheet, and set the right curves on the rip for both resolutions.

Thank you mightyandy, I hope the problem líes on calibration and not in diodes.
