I have a dying 1650 with envelope feeder that is soon to be replaced. We do #9's on up to 9 1/2 x 14 3/4 with run sizes from 500-20,000. All envelopes are printed black only. Need something that is easy to switch sizes, can run at a reasonable speed (5-7000 per hour) and must have an easy maintenance damp system (ie. KOMPAC). Any thoughts on a wise purchase?

i would look very carefully into these machines, and do homework on them before buying one. After extensive reading it put me off and i would never buy one

If you are doing black only get yourself an abdick 360, 8800, or 9800 series press. Stick with one of the older models, less electronics that can fail. I work at an in-plant shop at a university and we've got a pressman that run's tens of thousands of black envelopes week in and out on a 360 with an astro and never has any issues.

I'd agree with everything Plotter has said here ... AB Dick 9810 will run envelopes all day long at high speed, as will a Riso or a Duplo digital duplicator - these machines will probably do run them at about 6k per hour, maybe more.

Thanks everyone for your input, I appreciate it very much. So far I think its a RISO RZ990 with an envelope feeder that,s looking good!

I use Ryobi 3304 + Schneider feeder SF80 + stream delivery. 6k per hour is not a problem.

Riso is Cheap and not very good, AB Dick can be bought inexpensive and is the best in my opinion, easy to run and inexpensive to repair and maintain.

We run all of our envelopes on an AB Dick 360. Old machine but certainly faithful.
