We are in the process of buying a 2nd hand DI, just joined this forum, not sure how it works really, this is a test run, :), looking for any possible feedback on the DI presses, good or bad, I've been in commercial offset for years, but not the DI.
    Hope to hear back soon

Scan through the DI forum topics. There are plenty of comments on the machines and descriptions of their pros and cons. You will be an expert on them after reading a few.

Not sure about oldfart (and I don't want to hijack his thread) but I've done a bit of reading/searching and there's a few specific questions I can't find answers to.

Like will a QMDI handle heavier stock (350gsm) ok and produce good solids? I've heard they have problems with ghosting - would this be more evident on heavy stock? And regarding usage on a used press, obviously less is better but what's the advisable cut-off point of diminishing returns, 5million, 10, 20, 40? And how do the technologies compare between a QMDI and, for example, an Indigo 3000 - what can each do that the other can't?

That's not a problem Dagoof, you asked a few questions that I would have eventually asked. Consumables on my mind here, are they readily available or would we need to purchase large quantitys because of transport issues, we are in a remote area in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean( Newfoundland Canada)
Also, was reading some posts last night, someone mentioned in running process colors, the yellow becoming dirty pre-maturely, is this a common issue with DI presses as it is with conventional offset presses? Have a great day folks!:)

Was something I was going to ask too actually as the ordinary QM offset suffers from contamination due to the common blanket - I thought on the DI this wasn't an issue as I thought the colors were separated more effectively. Probably a good supplementary question then is how many impressions before this becomes an issue?

Contamination in the last unit of any offset machine is not unusual. Although, on the QMDI with the shorter ink train it tends to contaminate a little quicker. The rate of contamination is directly related to the amount of ink coverage of the previously laid colors.

Typically operators just run less yellow ink in the unit and freshen it up between pile changes if needed.

Hi, I own a DI for over 7 years and I came across with deferent scenarios...
GOOD: for small runs, quick setup, feeding, to run Photos...
BAD: not good to if you want to run solids, for long runs, if the machine gets hot you will get toning problems...
--- Of course this depends directly on how good you maintain the press and how the operator is...
    Good look,,,,
