There are a few wood free options. I'm just learning about this myself.

One option is a chemical pulp paper. its made from synthetic fibers and milled like normal paper.
Another option is organic fiber pulp. Made from Hemp or cotton..

That about all I know really. Hope this helps.

"Wood Free" is a confusing term used for a long time in the paper and printing industry. It is really a shortened description of "Mechanical Wood Free". Mechanical wood paper is made from coniferous trees mechanically ground up to make fibres small enough to make into paper. Some chemical bleaching is also applied to this pulp but fibres still contain Lignin, the natural polymer that fills the spaces between the wood's cell walls (Wikipedia has a good article on Lignin). Lignin is brown in colour so paper made from mechanical wood is usually a brownish white. Newspapers, paperback books and some magazines are made from paper using mechanical wood. On exposure to light the brownish colour develops and becomes stronger so this type of paper is only really used for products intended for a short lifespan.
Woodfree paper contains no unbleached mechanically ground wood fibres. All the fibres in the papers have the lignin and other impurities removed by bleaching with a chemical. Chemicals used are either Chlorine (which has an environmental impact because of harmful by-products which can be released into rivers) or, more usually, hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydrosulphite and others. Chemical bleaching adds costs to the paper but the whiteness of the paper and the fact that it is less likely to discolour over time make it desirable for many applications. Paper can be made from many sources of cellulose fibres - hemp, esparto and other grasses, bagasse (the fibrous plant matter remaining after sugar is extracted from sugar cane), cotton rags and others. So, your paper is certain to contain wood pulp but not unbleached mechanically ground wood.

    Hi,

Wood-free paper is paper created exclusively from chemical pulp rather than mechanical pulp. Chemical pulp is normally made from pulpwood, but is not considered wood as most of the lignin is removed and separated from the cellulose fibers during processing, whereas mechanical pulp retains most of its wood components and can therefore still be described as wood.

    Thanks!

A printing and writing paper which contains little or no mechanical woodpulp is called wood free paper. Paper who contains less than 10% mechanical pulp is categorized as woodfree, more than 10% it is called mechanical paper. It can be coated (CWF) or uncoated (UWF).
