I have a AB Dick 9840 with factory wet end. I am using plates similar to xante. With rubber base inks I have some issues with scumming not alot though. However when I use oilbase inks it has scumming issues so bad I can't get anything done. I have tried rogersol fountian solution both pink and green. Do you guys have any idea what may be the issue?

If its the factory integrated system you have then oil based inks wont work. As the oil based ink will just emulsify when it contacts the water.

I am Ex AbDick engineer and we would never run oil based ink on an intergrated system,,oil and water just dont go,, however if you think you have a fount problem you could try SLM OD 50 , or win font. When I used to dem machines I was running a 4 color process job using xante plates and I asked the xante rep what font I should use and he said ''Any thing you like''

Well I guess I need to get a install and parts manual for it, and install it. I get it off a Junk press that I bought just for parts. I got lucky on that deal.

Have you tried putting body gum or aqua varnish in the ink ? The Kompac will make a world of difference!

If you are using laser plates similar to Xante it could be the plates themselves. We had this problem in the beginning. You need a plate cleaner/starter, which is similar to etch. You apply it to the plate before putting it on press. We run our plates on just about every dampening system invented and they run fine. I mean problems will occur occasionally but I would start there. Also what brand plates are you using. We use strictly Hurst plates and they run great. I hated Xante plates.

The only thing you changed that caused problems was going from metal plates to laser, correct? Pick which ink you want to work with and tweek it from there. If you want to run the laser plates and have good results, don't mess with anymore oil based inks. Try adding some alcohol (Isobutyl) to your solution. This makes your water "wetter" if your dampening system is set too tight, this will help dampen the plate better. If this does not work, then its a sensitivity problem with the plate as stated before, maybe some gum or something for use on the plate before its run. Might want to try Varn products we've had pretty good luck with them for fountain solution.
