Hi, my newish metering rollers have developed grooves about 15mm from each end as you can see in the photo. Anyone know why?

it's from the edges of the chrome roller. There is no remedy for this .We have the same problem on our LS29 but it's not a big problem cause you can work with the grooves and they don't affect the print quality. This is one of the worst dampening system i have ever seen,it's very sensitive and everything has to be perfect to work properly.

    L29 metering roller problems

Yeah, it seems to have happened very quickly with my press. The new Bottcher rollers developed these grooves after a few weeks. I've also had occasions when the printers managed to "burn out" metering rollers by running dry. I thought there was a sensor to prevent this happening?

I have never seen this on any of my Komories for twenty years until today. I saw it on one unit, the one that I tried a new roller company on. The rolller is about 5 months old and the damage is not that bad, but make one wonder a bit if it isn't a rubber issue.

    roller damage

My rollers are bottcher 144 25 which is the recommended alcohol free rubber? Plate dampers are the same material and they are fine?

Who cares whom recommended the rubber or why, If is doesn't work try another one. Roller companies screw up just like everybody else.
