    Hello,

My pressman had tried to use a flood gloss varnish once on the DI. He came in the next morning and the job was a solid brick due to the whole lot drying together. Now, he says the DI can not handle varnish. Am I missing something here? Shouldn't it be able to varnish like any other press? Isn't it a chemistry issue and he just didn't have the correct settings and or varnish?

Please advise how to proceed. I'm tired of losing bids due to his lack of wanting to try again.

We have no problem in varnishing jobs on the DI. In actual fact we even use standard varnish. We make sure it does run heavy on the sheet, and spray enough powder ( not excessive).

Yep, standard offset varnish, run just a little light, plenty of powder and IR dryer.
I also run spot varnish on the DI by adding heavy water fighting varnish to regular varnish.

Def plastered the sheet, do that and you will get a brick. Easy way to tell if its to heavy is palm your sheet, if the sheet sticks to your hand your running to much. I use heavy body gloss, and matte varnish from Toyo.

Just enough to seal the sheet, anymore than that and you will have a brick
