    Hi everyone.

I am looking to print some stickers, I am unsure how they are done. I need to print onto clear and somehow back the image in white. I have seen stickers like this before but can't work out how they have printed the white on.

    Any ideas, thanks?

Am I thinking what your saying is the color image is printed over white on clear stock? If so double hit sheet with opaque white. let dry a day then print over again in 4color.. Am I on the right track?

UV Flexo - awsome result, but you need the quantity to justify the exspense. Printing only a few, maybe on a digital machine which has the option to print white.

Running Litho may result in alot of spoilage (blocking/set-off), drying time takes forever.......

thanks, The only way I could come up was was to use a Gerber Edge for the white then print separately on clear and apply over the white, but it would be tricky to line everything up. When you say UV Flexo, is this a large printing machine?

Custom stickers will be better to do digital, I would think that these would be very small if not single quantities. Litho / Flexo is more for production runs (large-ish quantities).

As Print 101 says litho is for larger runs, although sheet fed printing UV Litho wouldn't be a problem on clear substrate

Hi I don't know if I am making myself clear. I need to print 1x custom stick for quite a few different clients, So for example, 15 stickers all different cartoon characters printed on to clear adhesive with 1x layer of white (to back the colours) and then a second layer printed over the white with the other colours like: http://www.advancedanime.com/pictures/normal_phenoix_fairy.jpg The black on this example being the clear.

How would I go about printing 2x layers in exactly the same place on clear adhesive, one layer being white. Lytho is out of the question because of practicality purposes making plates etc for just one image.

Thanks for any input, this has been driving me mad, any ideas?

    Hi

You want to print white first and then 4 color process on top of it?

If so find a shop that has an indigo with white ink installed.
We can print white first with 4 colors on clear adhesive in one pass.l

We have done this kind of printing with a white sticky back vinyl. We also print clings either inside mount - outside read. This means the cling goes against the glass so we put colors down first and then put 2 hits of opaque white on the top. Or outside mount -outside read. This means the image is reverse reading with white down first or print on white cling. This is done uv.

how about printing 4/c process on a white adhesive instead of having to print opaque white onto a clear adhesive?

If I read your questions correctly you want to print 4 cp / opaque white / 4 cp in small quantity various versions for a 2-sided image on clear stock. The below will work for both static cling and ps vinyl.

My first choice of printing this combination would be to use the Litho UV process. This would be no problem at all but would require 2 or 3 passes through the press depending on available units & curing lamps. As you point out, that would require a lot of plates.

Second choice would be to produce this on a digital press, overlaminate with a blockout white, and print second pass on top of the blockout laminate. This would work well for small quantities and still stay in the budget. The laminate would have to have clean trims on the guide sides for this to work.

Third option would be to print digital, apply opaque white via screen press, and then overprint on the digital press. This will take some R&D as most screen inks have enough silicone content that the digital inks will not adhere well on top of them. Most screen ink companies do have an option that will work for this but it must be trialed on your press.

I realize this is a outdated post but if you want to print white to decal clear materials go to www.whitetoner.com as that company has white opaque toners for the Oki Data color printers. You can use the white toners for printing onto dark color paper for invitations, waterslide decals, clear transparency adhesive decal material and use the white to make the color overprint become opaque.

It is a lot easier to run a transparent material through a DIGITAL printer with white toner in it then screen printing it. another advantage is it won,t scratch off or smear with oil on it after printed.
Most don,t know the white toner is available for this application.
