I am WAY over my head on this stuff! But here I am anyway. I have just acquired a CF3102. It has the ability to be used as a printer as far as I can figure, as it has a place to plug in a CAT5 cable. I can't seem to understand what to do next to be able to print to this machine. I do see that there are no Win7 drivers offered, but I also read that Vista drives will work.

I plugged at CAT5 into the printer/copier, and the other end into my Netgear Router, but I am SOOO lost, can't figure out what to do from this point - been going over the manual for hours. Might as well be Chinese to me. Anyone care to try to help me? Thanks.

Maybe a little more detail would help? I have gone through the panel on the copier and set the TCP, got the IP address and made changes so it would stay the same. It seems that I need to access the printer now with some applet on one of the computers? Fiery CPanel or something? Used machine, no CD or any other kind of programs came with it. I have the settings (above) and did save them on exit (on the printer). I then logged into my router control panel to see if I could "see" the printer. No joy. I can "see" all the computers, both hardwired and wireless, but no printer. I also went through the driver installation but of course, when I send a print job, the printer itself isn't been "seen" anywhere, so it just throws an error.

I sure would appreciate ANY direction someone might be willing to give. Thanks for reading.

I'm not familiar with this exact printer, but until someone else jumps in:

If it has a fiery rip, install Command Workstation http://www.efi.com/cws5/
(not sure how old this is, but even if cws 5 doesn't support my oldest printer (where cws 4 is what works best), it at least will see it and give me status info.)

In terms of the networking, you should be able to see the printer's or rip's ip.
If your local network uses addresses like 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.2 and so on
I take it on the printer's control panel you've set it to say 10.0.0.3 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
And yet when you ping 10.0.0.3 from your workstation (which is say 10.0.0.2) it doesn't ping?

(10.0.0.x or 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x corresponding to what you use for your local private network.)

Make sure the switch isn't also handing out that IP via dhcp to some other device.

Make sure you're using a standard network cable and not a crossover cable between the printer and the switch ports on your router. (a crossover cable is often used if there is a cable between printer and its external rip as there is no switch involved there so the cable is an x-over rather than a straight-through normal network cable.) You might also reset/reboot both the printer and your router/switch after making the ip change for good measure.

OK Thanks for responding! I have made a little headway. I went through the IP settings and changed them instead of accepting the defaults. I then rebooted each unit one at a time and I can now "see" the printer when I log into the router! That makes me feel better! LOL By the way, I have it set at 192.168.1.7 just for reference sake. I don't know how to "ping" so I have no results there. Now .. not sure what a "fiery rip" is or how to tell if I have one. I did look at the link. Is there a shareware download that would work? This is a brand new office, I am running on a shoestring and paying the office rent our of my personal funds until we start making some money. I would LOVE to be able to hire a guy and just "do whatever is needed" but ... I can't. Free or very cheap ... good. :)

Holy Cow! I figured out the CWS5 thing and have it installed! And it is seeing the printer! Woo Hooo! Now ... this is an older, used machine and I don't know the Administrators password. I did look up on the website and found the defaults to be 00000000 or 123445678. On the machine control panel, I can log in using 0000 and access those controls. But from the CWS I cannot get in. Is there a way to reset that password that anyone knows?

And now that I have access ... sort of .. how to I print from various machines?

Update ... discovered that the password was simple ... just leave it blank. Now I can't figure out how to get drivers loaded into the two XP Pro machines. I have drivers downloaded, but can't figure out the procedure to install them properly. The problem seems to be that I don't know how to find the printer path once. The printer is hooked directly to a Router, not to any computer. How do I discover the path so I can get the computer to see that machine?

Thanks to everyone that has been reading.

On your windows XP machine, when you install the print driver select Add Port, Standard TCP/IP Port, and then enter 192.168.1.7 and you should be good to go. Or if you have any trouble during the initial driver install not finding the place to create a new port, install it as a local printer (parallel LPT1 port), don't send a test page, then click on properties, ports, and change this there by clicking add new port, standard tcp/ip port, and enter the printer's IP 192.168.1.7.

Well, this is weird, at least to me. I followed those instructions and the day was over. So I left it overnight. When I returned, I opened the Printer/Fax dialog box from the Start Menu on the WinXP machine. The printer showed there as a current devise and showed as "ready". I right clicked on the icon, and a dialog box with a fair amount of tabs came up. I looked at the some of then, and saw one that pertained to the printers state. I could see ink level, paper setting, etc. So, all seems well right? I then started up Word, typed a simple sentence and sent it to print. Now the control panel on the Copier/Printer is off, it has gone into "sleep mode" I guess? So I am waiting for the print .. nothing. I walk over and hit the start button on the Printer to "wake it up". Try printing again. Nothing. I go back to the Print/Fax dialog box from the Start Menu and the printer now shows "OffLine". I'm lost.

Well, I haven't much hair left at this point. LOL I have decided that there is an issue with the Printer Controller that is keeping this machine from printing. Thanks to all that have read this thread, and thanks to archipelago for you direction. Now ... off to figure out what to do next.

Yeah, I hear ya. Not much documentation. To get to TCP/IP setup, enter UTILITY mode to the right of the display. Then click CONTROLLER DETAIL. From there, click the MENU button on the display. Now scroll through the menu item and find RUN SETUP. Once you are in "setup" then find NETWORK SETUP and enter it, then find PROTOCOL SETUP. From there you will find TCP/IP SETUP and you're off and running. :)

    Hope that helps!
