so just had my lithrone (l528 - 1998 model)up and running for about a month and today i come in and the water is all over the place! washing out and catching up. first the second unit metering roller stops for no reason and it get smashed up with big holes out of it so check roller settings, check there is water pumping, and check the little disc inside the end of the motor for oil build up. nothing seems to be wrong but it keeps doing it. so i move all my colours down one unit and turn the 2nd off. water still giving headaches on all units like settings are all over the place but they aren't. then it happens on the 5th! i just heard a pop then all of the sudden i'm printing solid yellow, i check the metering roller and i've taken chunks out of that one as well!! engineer is on his way but if someone has experienced this before help would be great!!

It might be something called an "amplifier" that when bad. A box that helps control the damps.
I hope thats not what it is for you. Its $$$$$$

If it is a pcb then before you splash out on a new one see if you can get it repaired, any competant electronic engineer ought to be able to replace burnt out components. Or maybe your Komori distributer may take it in as part-ex for a refurbed pcb.

so we checked the drive boards (pcb? it looks like a playstation with a few led's on it) and swapped them to other units. while the engineer did this i cleaned the chrome Y roller with strong plate cleaner and then gum. we had no trouble after that. engineers told us that the Y rollers get dirty (calcium?) even when they look clean and they start to get too grippy which puts load on the motor and trips it out, which of course makes the Y roller grab the metering roller and start to take chunks out of it...
is this a normal problem? or should we be looking at our chemistry?
even this week after washing up on friday with bottcher feboclean and calciumfix a couple of the units were inking up the Y roller and making it grippy. should i have to pull out all my metering rollers every week to clean my Y roller?

The chrome roller is not suppose to pick up ink.
Try using a chrome roller cleaner on the chrome roller.
I found that if you don't wash up good that the chrome roller will pickup ink.
I noticed that when I use febo clean and the chrome roller is not all the way clean it'll have an effect also.

Someone told me once after you clean the chrome roller you should apply pure gum arabic to it and it it sit and dry.

clean your chrome roller with a good chrome cleaner once every 6-8 hours
clean your rubber rollers (damps) with a good rubber cleaner that will leave them as new - once in every 6-8 hours
keep your dampening water in the right spec and you should have no problems

if you don't get the rollers to a good condition they will not take the water right...and take ink instead

your chromes are probably permanently sensitive if you have used febo clean on your damp system. If the crome loads up with ink, the system will feel a drag and shut off. Then you will burn up your rollers. Do not use febo on your damps. That crap is supose to used to deglaze the ink train. If you have a calcium build up in the ink train, try a warm water, viniger rinse. If your rubber rollers in your ink train are glazed ,pull them out and scrub them with pumice powder.

    Rod (old school)

ps. throw that febo in the trash! It is an unneccesary product and junk in my opinion.

Clean your chrome rollers with prisco chrome roller cleaner and make sure your fount is correct and settings are correct then there should be no problem which fount do you use please.
If you do de-calcify you should always clean the chromes after as the de-calcifying gel will sensitize the chrome if it allowed to dry on it
    Good luck

not only that its hard to get out of the rollers......an old school vinegar and warm water still rules imo..........and pumice like you said!
I only use paste because Im running UV inks now but always always use warm water,,,,,,,a couple of extra minutes to do a good job on the damp rollers will save hours later.......
