A couple of months ago we began to have a strange problem: Whenever we walk in a web wider than 24" the paper begins to stick to the blankets on the blue units and wrap them up. It sticks to the outside where the ink has built up. We've run the press for six years and never had this problem. We've changed out the blue ink tote but that didn't help. Now it's starting on the red. anybody got any ideas?

since it is six years old press these problem tends to happen try using quick release blankets & try increasing chill roll speed.

You might try using a 'coated stock' to web the press, then switch back to stock needed for each print job. Coated paper will not 'wrap up' as easily on the area of the blankets where ink has built up during a narrow web press run. Another solution I've found is to place a small amount of 'straight solvent' in the area where the wrap ups occur.
    Happy printing.

try a new batch of ink first it might just have to much tack and or try a different manufacturer brand, it might not be you at all! make sure your blankets are in good nick, because the edges of the blanket get compressed from the paper less, so they will always have more pressure out to the sides which compiles your probs. remember to clean your impression cylinders before you run the wider web in or your asking for trouble straight off the bat, with ink being transfered onto it from both sides in one hit doubled with the extra compression from the build up on the impression cylinder and extra thickness of the blanket sides the paper will surely delaminate, the blanket side has the most tack so more often than not the delaminated surface will happily follow the blanket into a nice wrap around for you to deal with! one easy little trick around it is clean your blankets before you feed the wider web in champ! if you are pressed for time spray a little ink reducer or stop set spray onto the edges of your web, that should see you right for a quick fix champ, don't go to overboard or you'll contaminate your ink chain and end up washing up which takes longer than cleaning your blankets thus defeats the purpose!
    hope anything helped

also check out the solvent your using on your blankets, it might be to harsh and is softening them up causing extra tack, even if its a little harsh over time it will still have the same effect on the blanket surface
