It's been a long time since I made roller adjustments on my 9870. Seems like it's a very simple adjustment. If you take off the side covers and scope things out it may become obvious. It has to be an eccentric adjustment close to the side frames... Good luck. I will look at my press next time...
Yep, good one John. The first week on my new five color helper's job in 1970, the pressman sent me to the plate and stripping dept. to borrow the "plate stretcher"...lol.
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the factory continuous dampener. That thing was a nightmare before a new rubber compound straightened out the problem. My cousin had the Crestline with the problem you're talking about.
As far as Kompac vs Dahlgren; Kompac is a totally automatic water application. Dahlgren requires adjustment. My shop runs both. Kompacs on two Multis, Dahlgren on a 9800 AB Dick. I tend to prefer Kompac, but the Dahlgren is a great system, IMHO.
Landscape rules, however, there is something to be said for portrait press' ability to run less expensive cut sheet sizes... Straight from the press to the next step, bypassing the cutter.
I concur. Problem was it took six years to solve the problem.A lot of frustration, wasted time and paper!!!!!!!!!
I now run uncoated card stock strips wedged between the water pan and the bar it rests on. I let the strips hang out just a little. Now I can see a water dripping problem...
In 1970 the printing company where I worked in Atlanta had the pressroom and bindery seperated by a freight elevator. The pressroom was on the second floor and there were large expansion cracks in the floor.
Who here has the record of the longest distance covering the floor with press sheets...
In the early 70's I was a helper on a Miller 38 5 color. The pressman was walking around the press by the fountain solution tanks looking for the measuring cup so he could add alcohol. I didn't relate that to his question, "Have you seen the graduate?"
I replied, thinking it was an odd out of...
One good thing about stream feeding is the sheet reaches the headstops at a much slower speed than single sheet feeding.
About AB Dicks: I have one. Don't particulary like the flimsy construction, the way the print head bounces around, etc. BUT, it is a money maker!!!!!!!!
You probably know this...for heavy coverage: run max or almost max ink fountain roller stroke to help mill out the ink. Run the press on the slow side. Unless you have a Kompac or other similar automatic water system run minimun water setting. Use tack reducer in ink.
The first 5 years of my...
