Maybe you're just not working with the right commercial printer. There should be some provisions for discounts and special offers if you're a regular customer and if you can find a reliable and experienced commercial printer, you sould be able to work something out.

It seems that adcoprintsucks.com is no longer available. It's a shame, really as it would be very interesting to see people's opinions on exactly why adcoprint sucks.

How are the paintings getting onto the computer? Are they being photographed or scanned up? What kind of scanner is being used? Some paintings photograph better than scanned and vice versa, but usually how the image is uploaded to the computer is a big factor in how it looks on the computer...

I would also go with the 8 color machine. Sounds like, given your situation, it would be the better option. Good luck on your purchase and let us know what you decided to go with!

Nice post, Yoemei. I feel that quite a few people (myself included) have a tendency to forget why things done up in RGB don’t always match up with what is printed using CMYK. So this is a good and easy to understand breakdown that should be helpful to some beginners.

I would check with printers in your local area as well. You want to go with a printer that you will be able to easily service and easily obtain parts for. Otherwise you’ll find yourself with a high-quality paper weight if anything happens to it and you can’t get it fixed. Best of luck to you!

Did you get your problem worked out, Zach? As far as the images I would have him label all of them and then send you the files. There’s no real need for having to do everything in Quickbooks or use a plug-in.

I also use macs here as well. I think it’s a personal preference though, I’ve worked with them since I was in high school, so I just lean that way. Thanks for the information about Gelatin though, I actually missed that app and it sounds like it’s pretty convenient.

I would try and gain a bit more experience in it and learn more before jumping into it. Otherwise you won’t be able to take off an you’ll only end up wasting money. But if you have some experience then go right ahead!

Once you have a few customers under your belt it’s not so bad. It’s still hard and it does take a lot of budgeting, but once you get on your feet you’ll make it. Best of luck to you!

Unfortunately I feel as though things are just going to go downhill as the years go by. Everything is becoming more and more digital. Plus as graficworx said, people now want quantity over quality and as such are just going to lean more towards digital.

Glad you were able to figure everything out Coloboque! Xfactor, when you say that a UV coating machine is a 20k machine, do you mean it costs about $2000? I was thinking about investing in one, so any additional information would be awesome.
