    Just out of curiosity, what is everyone doing to fix plates slipping out of the plate clamps?

    Do the plates your using measure .012". If not then there is your problem. Clamps could also need either cleaning, adjustment, or both. Not sure of procedure on KBA but im sure there are provisions for adjustment. If wash-ups or plate cleaning and gumming are sloppy you could also have buildup inside the clamps that are clogging up the knurl and causing the clamps to be ineffective at getting a good bite of the plate.

    @OP-

    I don’t know how anyone can effectively answer a question about plate clamps, without first knowing what it is that you’re talking about. What exactly is the problem? What press is it, what plates, is there any plate hanging automation etc.?

    I have a large format press that I am currently installing all new hinges in. I was just curious what other companies are doing to solve plate slip issues. I have talked with a pressman at another company and he says they just “deal” with the plates slipping out. I’m guessing they add a piece of material between the hinge and the plate to create a tighter clamp and so the hinge locks like it should when the tension is released.

    I have a service company specializing in large format KBA’s if you need any assistance - I’ve rebuilt many clamps over the years.
    Check the ledge on the body of the plate clamp segments - there should be a 1mm ledge for the clamp to crimp against. There were also some clamp segments that had set screws in the lids that need to be adjusted for the proper heights of the clamping claw to get over center and hold the plate.

    Yes. The new hinges are working great. As far as I know, you can't buy just the hinges from KBA. You have to buy the entire clamp. So, you will have to find a good machine shop to help you.

    I had a few units where the clamp would slip away. I would glue emery cloth strips on the plate edge to stop the slipping, until you can get the clamps replaced.

    Can you please send me pictures or video of the emery cloth strips and in the clamp. What type of glue are you using?
