You can used any computer with a parallel port for dor RIP.. i have a AMD X3 core with 2Gb memory and windows 2000 server edition, with a DVDRW, hard drive 1Tb sata... i can help you how do a RIP but you need found the computer and Doongle Key (important)... I do reset and reformat the RIP server from my client... i can put a RIP with quality print to 2540 DPi (is only configurate DeltaPrint manager and queue setup), and do the network remote control from other computer, with Delta software 8.5 i have the software for Delta 6.0 and 7.5 version and upgrade to 8.5, is necessary windows 2000 because you need the Applet talk protocol and Mac print service for the delta work, this protocol don´t existing in widonws Xp, but you can put this protocol, but i dont recomend windows XP. you can use USB port and other, for example i have a webcam inside to the press and see in video inside the machine with a software for webcam (is invented for me) because windows 2000 you can use the USB port a old webcam driver. Is more stable, you dont need a SCSI Disk, because you can use a Ide o SATA, for me, is better SATA with RAID, but i dont need this because i do a backup with Norton Gosh (problem solve any time, Hard Disk or RIP dead, only do backup and easy, the RIP is alive), i do test with a PCI realtek Rl8185 Wifi card, but is bad idea because WiFi is no stable, many trouble with the signal. In december a client need a RIP in argentina (the mother board dead IBM Rip), so i used a HP T5720, best!!! small, tiny, parallel port, USB port, WiFi, i do the experiment and all work, the problem was with the driver, but in internet, I did looking and i found this, i did sell this RIP in US$800 for a heidelberg classic (8 ink key), so from this time, any problem don´t happen since today still working very well. You can write me to: heidelberg_qmdi@tech-center.com. I´m latin, my english is no good, but i do supprt to any people in other country, for example, spain, UK, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, USA, France.

    Hi Marc,

Could you please tell me how I can run two separate DI machines off the same RIP. The RIP we are using is a HighWater Navigator 8.0 RIP.
How do I go about setting up the RIP for two machines? Any help would be appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Shawn

Do you need 2 different setup files (one for each DI) or can you handle it with one setup.

Hi Marc - at the risk of sounding silly, what exactly do you mean by 2 different setup files?

We are currently running 1 DI off our RIP with no problems. How do I add the 2nd machine to the RIP so that I can send files to the 2nd press?

Sorry if this sounds naive - I am still very new to all the technical stuff regarding the RIP.
    Thanks again

    Shawn

You could use the same que (setup) to rip files and store them in the same place as you do for the first DI (not preferable). Better is to create a new que for the second DI (calibration files etc.) and place them in the same map as for the second DI. Also possible to create a new que and place the files in a different map than the first DI (you have to change the imagepath on the second DI )

    Hi Marc,

The Navigator RIP allows me to select a device / machine to output to. Do you think the 2nd DI would come up as an alternate option to output to once connected to the RIP? Should I connect both DI's to the RIP via an ethernet switch?

With my current setup, the DI is simply connected to the RIP via a network card. I hope I am making sense!

Please advise if this is the way I should go about doing this.

    Thanks - Shawn

The rip doesn't pop up with a second DI automaticly (this has to installed by hand). You need indeed connect the DI's to a switch with a straight cable (the one now used is a cross-cable). The most easy way to run both DI's is the first option.

Thanks for the reply. I understand what you mean about the cross over cables. So two straight cables - one from each DI connected to the switch which is in turn connected to the RIP? Is that correct?

When you say the 1st option is easier, could you guide me through the process?
In this option, how are the DI's connected to the RIP? Also via a switch with straight cables? Please advise.

    Thanks

Connect the two DI's via a switch and straight cable to the rip. Both DI's should now see the map on the rip to get the files from, this is the most easy way to get it up and running for both DI's (are the DI's off the same type 'CLASSIC' , 'PLUS' or 'PRO')

    Hi Marc - got it!

DI one - straight cable - to switch
DI two - straight cable - to switch
    Switch - connected to RIP

Both DI's are Classics - one is a 1996 (current one) and the other a 1997. Second press only arriving at our print shop next week so I will only be able to set up then.

Thanks again for the advice. Will keep you posted on our progress when the press arrives.

Could I please e-mail you the diagnostic screen for UNIT 1 which seems to have some errors?
Your input on what the errors might mean would be appreciated.

    Thanks again - Shawn
