I need advise on 2 problems I am having with the press. About 6 5/8 inches down the page/envelope I am getting a deep roller smudge, and at the same time the image in that area is not holding the image when printed on same?? any advise I can get on this would be greatly appreciated and am also looking for a handbook on this press as we bought it used and there was not one given to us. Thanks

Smudge? do you mean a tone line across the sheet? If yes this normally points to the upper form roller with that issue close to the lead edge. Either too much pressure, 180 out, or end play. Can't remember if the 9910 has the same diameter form rollers. Some presses use a larger diameter form on the bottom and they can get swapped by accident causing problems. What ply blanket are you using? How is the press otherwise? Is it a new machine? How did it run before and what was done since? More info can help. Mark Andy (Presstek) should have a operators manual. PDF or hardcopy. Printers Parts may have one as well. Hopefully you get more answers here it's not a press I've run for a long time.

What water unit does it have? Also using a chiller tank or just a water bottle?

Varn unit could be a Kompac? Water bottle goes in the top cover? These use a 1 way clutch on the form roller gear. If clutch is frozen and press rotates backwards (like to remove plate) the water will just spill out. If you rotate press backwards the water rollers should not spin.

The teflon side seals could also be worn. This allows the water to leak out the sides. These are the white seals inside the side unit that contact the side of form roller to hold water seal. Not the best design.

Bottle top could also be shot. The V shaped rubber stopper in the bottle top get funky after years. They can expand and prevent correct water flow.

Water nip setting could be open too much. 2.0 to 2.5 is a good start for these.

Of course there could be other issues but these are a few basics to check.

It is a kompac, seals etc are fine, when running ink up water is fine in the well, it's only when you engage print rollers to plate the well empties instantly, had the machine for 15 years and never really let me down but looks like I might have to find an engineer which could prove difficult, but many thanks for your replies

That is pretty strange. Is all the water going onto the plate? What is the nip set at on both sides? Nip settings are on the round aluminum ends on each side. Do you know what I mean and how to adjust? Are you the pressman? If not I can explain later. Is there excessive unit bounce when the unit is dropped to the plate? Were there any recent jams, paper or rags caught in the unit?
