Hamada 665CD Timing Issue

This press had not been used in two years, I did not have this problem then. Printing impression is fine, but the timing while running 11x17 (probably everything) is off. The 11x17 feeds thru with no wrinkles or paper bubbling up, but the feet come down to pick up the next sheet of paper and catch the tail end of the 11x17. This slows down the sheet and it doesn't pick up to feed thru the cylinders. I don't have an user manual and I don't know what adjustment(s) control this timing. 1) I need a manual, 2) Help figuring out what to adjust. Any ideas? I am a NEWBIE with this particular press. Thanks for any and all help.

 

What sucker feet are you using? I use to turn the black plastic feet so they face backwards. Or trim the lead edge of the tan rubber a 1/16" or so if you use the metal tube feet. This is a common problem with those Hamada's. You can also dial in the suction/feeder timing so it clicks on after the tail end of the sheet clears. But the suction foot adjustment should work in most cases. Also set pile height low as possible without misfeeds.

 

Also how old is the press? Are the covers red/tan colors? Reason I ask some of the earlier machines (light green or all tan covers) used a silly little piston with a internal spring in the feeder. The spring can break and cause timing misfeeds. This was eliminated on the later red/tan color machines.

 

This one is a two tone gray/green. I don't know how old as I picked it up at an auction. The sucker feet are the black plastic, I can try and turn them around.
If it would be the piston with the internal spring - do you have a photo or a diagram I could reference so I know what I'm looking for?
Where is the suction timing adjusted at? (No operator manual.)

I think your machine is a very early "Hamada Star" with the green/gray covers. Details are fuzzy this was a press I ran back in the late 70's. So bear with me here. If your has the piston/spring it'll be a black rectangle shaped box. Location would be in the area below the knob you turn to adjust the pile height. Back of the box has 2 allen screws diagonal top and bottom. If you remove the cover you'll see the spring and piston. The adjustment for feeder valve timing is behind the rear cover that covers the "latch" and "crank handle". I can't remember the exact orientation of everything. Can you take off that cover and post a few pictures? That would help greatly. I'm back at work Mon and will see if I have a old 665 manual. I run a newer Hamada and don't recall if it has the same type of parts. But will check. I can also call my repair guy. He's a Hamada service guy from way back. He may have a manual. Hopefully turning the feet backwards will help until I can get more info for you. Someone else may chime in with some help for you as well. I have a old multi that has the same type feeder latch I can look at Mon too. Since Hamada took the multi design and refined it somewhat they are very similar in some aspects.

 

Came up empty on parts manual sorry. Presses at work quite a bit different in feeder timing section. Nothing the same as the 665. If you can post a few pics I can still help. There are places that sell online manuals. Pay to join type deals nothing free don't think. Anyway didn't want to leave you hangin. AL Larson is Mass is still a Hamada dealer. They may have parts/repair manuals om PDF. Parts too if needed good guys. Been dealing with them for 40 years. Keep us posted please!

 

Do the 11x17 sheets run into each other at the stop fingers? These presses need the timing set to this size sheet.
I’ve been running them for 35 years and can take them right apart.
There are a lot of time setting to stop the sucker feet from hitting the back of 17” sheet

 

Pull off side guard operator side where pile height and feed on off switch is there is a nut with a Allen screw inside raise it that's how u adjust the timing of sucker feet screw is above pile raise lever and feed on /off lever
