I'm curious what other operators are getting out of there pr belts. Ours are lasting anywhere from 100k to 600k before having to be changed for streaks in the process direction. We have a very clean environment void of any offset equipment and use a Xerox coated sheet.

We run a lot of low coverage Variable data so we tend to get 600K-1200K+ on our PR belts usually. But I would imagine if you run mostly high coverage sheets you will greatly decrease PR life.

The way to ensure maximum PR belt life is when you do your maintenance prior to changing the belt. Clean all the backer bars and drive rollers thoroughly. Clean out the cleaner housing and replace the SPOTS blade. And every 3 belt changes or so, replace the cleaner brushes and flicker bars. The SPOTS blade will wear according to the shape of the current PR Belt, so when you change the PR Belt without replacing the SPOTS blade, you could potentially cause uneven cleaning/wear, or so I'm told. Likely those process direction streaks you are referring to are caused by buildup of ozone on the underside of the PR Belt.

  • I agree with richman. We also run lots of variable low coverage work. We run 900k to 1 million impressions before PR Belt change. Following proper maintenance procedures will keep your system running smoothly.

I've also had an issue where the streaks were caused from the Aux Bead Magnet. The toner was built up so high that it was actually finely rubbing against the PR. Make sure you clean that during a belt change.

If you are running a 4 talk to your tech about switching the cleaning housing to aiGen 3 cleaning housing. It made a big difference on my old iGen4. We were only getting 150k out of our belts if we were lucky. Running Xerox Poly stock duplex and certain other stocks also causes oil transfer on to the belt shortening the life.
