Okay the front end being laggy while processing is making me go bonkers. And causing me to delete/hold/copy files accidentally LOL

I see that there is that "reallocation of resources to the mouse and keyboard." but looks like you gotta log in to Unix as root to do so. Can I do this, or should I leave it to the Xerox peeps to do it? I have the procedure printed out and ready....

    thanks

Are you printing VI and it is spooling, then printing, then spooling, and printing?

I am printing quite a few postscript or pdf files at once, and occasionally, some of them need to be manipulated. So I like to have the first file up and processing, while I work on the others, releasing one by one, So as not to have the machine be down waiting for files.

the cursor lag while doing this is HORRIFYING. double clicking is impossible, and right click is about 50-50. It is while file still says "processing file"

If it is fully processed, there is no trouble.

I have this printout of how to solve it, by reallocating resources to keyboard and mouse. here is the exact wording:

The setAllowRealTimeFacilities script provides you with the ability to configure how the operating system allocates system resources for all Queues. Specifically, it allows you to allocate more resources to the keyboard and mouse to prevent slow or unresponsive actions from those devices while jobs are processing. The sections below provide steps for using the setAllowRealTimeFacilities script.

As the root user, perform the following in a terminal window:
    1. Type: cd /opt/XRXnps/bin <enter>
    2. Type: ./setAllowRealTimeFacilities false <enter> where “false” tells the FreeFlow Print Server to allow additional system resources to be allocated to the keyboard and mouse while jobs are processing.
    3. Select [System: Restart] to restart the FreeFlow Print Server application and have the change take effect.

    solved.

Xerox consultant was down here checking into how my new 180 was doing, I pestered him for the root password. Easy fix.

peels this saved me yet again. We had a scrape done two weeks ago with an upgrade and starting having all kinds of problems with processing variable data. I remembered this fix and just tried it...and sure enough, worked like a charm.

Make sure you are in the correct directory with pwd. Type ls -al to display the files and see if it is in there. Make sure you type it as is (case sensitive)
