    Hi all,

I'm finding the 150 an excellent piece of kit, but I'm not very happy about when I'm printing text into the stacker and someone wants an urgent run of 300 and I have to print it out of the top. This means on 300gsm stock I have to wait every time it hits about 45 sheets then it warms down for ages and then the same time repeats. Is there a way of fooling the sensor into telling it to carry on? I can keep up with taking the covers out of the top tray but the sensor still has a microsecond to still think there's a sheet in the tray when I've pulled them out quick enough to continue really. Any thoughts on the top tray and how to optimise the way it runs?

You mean a run while in the middle of another job? I don't understand the issue, you can just select another stacker. Like the bottom one or side one, unless you don't have either somehow?

We don't have a 2nd stacker, we only have a top tray and 1 stacker.

That is what I mean, just select the bottom stacker. Pulling the tray out, then putting it in, then removing the short run output is way faster in the end that clearing out the top tray. It isn't "convenient" but way better than trying to time the top tray.

why must you print out top? because its 300?

    oh...

wait. your'e saying while running, it shuts down every 45? thick paper, mine does this every 24, and drives me absolutely bonkers. I have 14pt job I run to the top every week in the fall. 700 sheets. no choice.... wait at exit....with quick hands.

you have to stand there, and pull them out QUICKLY to keep the top sensor open. If you're doing simplex, this can be a fun challenge. duplex, you can do it while its cycling pretty easy. It will stay running.

I looked into defeating the sensor. but it wont run to top without it. :( ALso, making paper just pop out the side. lol

Is that even possible? I've never been able to manage it. Company makes us print invoices on our machine, and they only go to top without jamming. I never can yank them before the sensor hits 100.

simplex, indeed iv'e been able to keep going. with quick hands. like constantly removing them. never let more than a few buildup in there. Unfortunately, ive never done a large amount to prove this concept as fact. only small amounts ...without jamming for some other reason. maybe had it run 75-100 without stopping? I just keep the top of the stacker directly left of the top tray clear, then keep stacking it there, it works. just need that sensor open long enough to reset, i guess.

not exactly sure how it works. Is there a certain number it hits before it cycles down? can it be changed?

it appears to be 18 or 24 with my duplex 14pt. 3-4 cycles. it gets to that number, then spits out remaining 12-18 still queued up or in the path, and stops.

Just realized my response wasn't clear. I can pull the pages out of the top tray no problem, but can never seem to get the sensor to reset in time.
It always stops when it thinks it has 100 sheets piled up, which is the maximum. Fortunately its only a mild annoyance.

Anybody else having major issues with the toptray sensors? we got 7 stackers for iGens in our shop and all of them seems to keep seeing a sheet in the tray even though its removed, so we have to stick a finger down in the sensor for a second or two, then it will realise the sheet is gone.

Never seen that. though I usually clean it.. i only have problems with the sensors IN the stacker. they get dusty, dirty. and dry paper makes for static. you can hear the stacker clicks go caddywhompus. annoying.

why cant you just unload the stacker and run the 300 to the stacker?

Guys, I've found that if you go into PSIP Diagnostic - Stackers - NVM Groups and select Purge Tray. You can change the value of the sheet count setting from 100 up to 256. 20# of course. ID number is 11,748.

What lighting do you have in the shop. As a test turn the lights off and see if it does it then

    Well that's ******* handy! Cheers!

As an iGen operator of over five years and having to run thousands of sheets to that pathetic top tray has always been a bane. Unloading it every 30 sheets or so on heavier stocks isn't that bad it's just that it takes your attention off of other jobs running on other machines.

We used to have a bypass tray that just hooked onto the end of the iGen and that would hold nearly 500 sheets or so. That was simple and extremely handy.

I'll give your NVM a try and report back.

I didn't touch NVM 11,748, but setting both NVMs 11,743 and 11,745 to "35" let the top tray hold 100 sheets of 100# gloss cover stock.

11,743 - Purge Tray Height Physical Capacity
11,745 - Purge Tray Height Operational Capacity

Still stopped the tray at 100 sheets per the counter (NVM 11,748), but just let the "height" counter or whatever go beyond the piddling 40 sheets I usually get.
