Digitally printed stock that can be overprinted with a laser or ink jet

Sometimes we produce special note cards or invitations that our clients want purchase then personalize the design with text on consumer quality laser printers or ink jet printers. Things that we print off our Xerox can't be overprinted on by our clients. Any ideas other than doing long offset print runs? Looking for short run shell production....

Have heard that Konica Minolta bizhub 6500 or possible the new Riso hc5500 might be able to do this...any ideas?

Can you clarify "why" things that you print off your Xerox can't be overprinted on by your clients? Please give some details as to what happens if they try, what equipment they're using when they try, etc.

We've successfully printed pieces that run thru an ink jet later down the line at someone's office or home, with the exception of stocks that naturally aren't meant for running thru an ink jet. But, as you mentioned, we outsource any letterhead which is planned to be imprinted using a laser printer. Or any job for that matter.

I think what he means is you cannot overprint on areas that already have coverage. When inkjet is overprinted on an area with coverage the ink will wipe off with little effort. If you run the preprinted sheet through a laser printer the iGen toner will melt and leave marks on unwanted areas.

Thanks for the clarification. You're absolutely right. In that case, Cardmaker, your safest option is definitely offset. However, I've heard Cannons can be used, but you can only overprint black on the shells, and the area to be overprinted MUST be a screen - no solids.
