Hello everybody, i am new member on this forum but i have been reading it a lot.

I have questions about buying a used igen3 digital press.

On one auction on ebay i have bought used igen3 with about 25mil clicks. Machine was full service maintained until february 01 2013. That company which sold me a machine bought new one, and that is the reason for selling this one.
Press is now desembled and waiting my transport. I bought it for 4500euro about 5500 dollars.

What do you think is that good or bad investment because i do not have a service contract on one side, but in the other side that is not a lot of money and i can risk.

    Sorry for bad English.

You will want to get a service contract. Parts/consumables/toner are expensive. Last time I looked a heat roll was approx 1200GBP (1800USD) and a PRB is approx 850GBP (1300USD)

two men enter, one man leave!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

I wouldnt do it unless I had reliable service... ID be worried about bearings...sensors...rollers.. that can amount to a ton of problems if left unchecked.

I know there is a big diffrents betwene igen3 and 4, but also there is a difrents in price igen3 will cost me about 7000 usd with transport, and i cannot find igen4 for less than 60000usd.

When you said that tech was in your company every day wath was the biggest problems with the machine, is it problems with parts or something else...

I have heard horror stories from my techs about a gen3 that a company bought that was sitting in a hot warehouse for a while and every roller and bearing in the machine was shot.

If you are shooting for the moon you are probably going to miss. If you are looking to increase your output my a small to medium amount you will probably be alright depending on the condition of the machine. Just take it slow and do not take on too much in the beginning. Ease into it.

    woohoo.....

    hey copyshop... a review:

Ill be honest... the Igen has its problems. Just as any printer would. If you know a thing or two already about digital printing(how it works mechanically), you could be ok. It would be a tall order to try this blind off the street. At least once a week something will happen new that will be a head scratcher. I had ZERO igen training. But was experienced on Kodak equipment, and a few other xerox machines...so I'm doing OK, though there was some time where i was seriously confused.

Now parts. be afraid if you will be buying them individually! I cant tell you costs, because ours are included in the maintenance. A blessing which I do not take for granted :) I HATED ordering ORCs for the nexpress.... HATED IT. The Igen will use parts.... ALOT of them. All gonna depend on your quality expectations and volume. Like me, I am passive aggressive... Ill overlook streaks until they are completely miserable, then swap parts. But I don't run all that much. I am unsure where you could find a list of parts either.... I had trouble getting one for Nexpress too.

The only place I feel the Igen lacks really, is the front end and in the RIP... but it's still workable. I have been burned by the front end a few times.... but, i've been saved by Igen's abilities more...

Id say it will do what you want, just don't expect it to do it on its own. Be prepared to do alot of shadetree repairs. The Igen is only as good as the guy who stands in front of it swearing profusely and throwing tools! LOL!!!!

In the end, I am not sure I'd like this machine quite so much if I didn't have a contract, and also didn't have the rapport I do with the technicians.

    :)

    good luck

The iGen3 should have been sold with a resident engineer included. We always joked with them about giving them their own parking spot e.c.t
