    i have this problem..sporadically...

"jam in print engine area 2"

HORSESH**! NOTHING IS IN THERE! anywhoo, i know they did something to it, and its been semi working, but ive had to boot twice today.

My question: is there a way at the service level to bypass the sensor briefly or something like that? as opposed to reboot...?

Im ready to wheel the thing out into the parking lot and beat it with a hammer.

    :)

Do you know how to clean the registration glass and sensors by removing the glass? Sounds like a dirty/weak jam sensor under the registration glass.

Check the reading on the jam sensors after they have been cleaned. Look at the sensor that is popping the error code. If the reading is too high , it needs to be replaced.

    hmph.

revisiting this. it has really never stopped doing this. still sporadically. but ALWAYS at the end of the day when I'm trying to leave.

twice today. jam, check for "jam in area 2" no paper. open/shut/open/shut repeat ad-nauseum. reboot out of frustration.

glass is clean. i do it as part of a maintenance routine.

AM I the only one this happens to? :(

Need to go into diags on the PSIP to see the sensor reflectance strength.

This happens on all my iGens aswell, some worse than others. I often have to open and close the center door just to get rid of this.

On my iGen3 i have a nasty one telling me to "check for paper in print area 2" when it comes the sensors have to be cleaned

Check the Pre registration entrance sensor (It's the one between the Feeder and Engine and a pain in the butt to access) If that gets dirty or is failing it will intermittently not switch back to L if a sheet goes through it and usually a POPO is required to clear it

thanks guys. Mine just says "jam in print engine area 2" sometimes if I just open it to work on belt or grids or something....super annoying. But clears with reboot...

Milo, I remember you mentioning that before. ANd I know which sensor youre talking about. I went on a cleaning binge of rollers and sensors awhile back but couldnt get that one.

and LOL swifty. ;) I was the kicker in high school. might be a bad thing.

    ugh.

this is back today 5pm I need to finish and go. 200 more sheets. love my job :)

the sensor at fault: process edge 5 DRC shows interrupted..... any thoughts?
fighting a 12pt scored 12x9 today- its running like absolute S***! if its not the feeder, its the vac transport. if its not that its the registration, if its not that its transfer errors.

    I could go on...

its got a miserable curl to it, getting a workout getting it to pull.

Do you have a bypass plug so you can open the door and watch it run?
Also--are any of the white tabs bent.. Xerox language is failing me now as it is 630 and I have had a couple lol

I have a folded up piece of cover stock jammed in the sensor :) ancient chinese secret.

stops for OTHER reason...mis-pull... stacker jam... that sensor doesnt clear.

    reboot. runs fine. its weird.

    to add to this:

Placed call, tech(new guy) came in, I showed him the sensor inputs in the psp. that process edge 5 sensor shows 230, while the rest hover at 100 or less. Im guessing that's the problem.

But, I did discover that just flicking that input off/on a few times, I can "clear" the jam... which is light years faster than rebooting.

He removed the glass and cleaned them-something Ive not wanted to do, just since I had never been shown-said they were really dirty. Alas, that sensor is still showing high number after the cleaning. So Ill have him order it.

    thanks again folks.

sensor changed(albeit after changing the wrong sensor first) :)

that number is still higher than the rest, but better it WAS 230+. its now 180. where the rest ares still at or below LOW 100's

hope thats the end of it.

ok im back to this. thogh never really "SOLVED" its been doing it off and on. "jam in area 2" even if just in standby, between stacker drops.

recently, started getting "check for paper in area 2" which is new.

that #5 sensor, which was supposedly replaced, is high as usual.

    thoughts? attached screenshots of values...

    no, its not dirty glass.

How does the metal reflector plate above the glass look? Any weird worn bits or blemishes?

    area 2 jams

Either the sensor has a lot of dust on it (under the registration glass) or it is bad. It should read a low value, 255 is the max and that says I'm not seeing the reflection of the sensor.
