    Hello,

Wondering if anyone has windows 7 here? Trying to find a driver that would be compatible with Windows 7 -- or any way to find out if Xerox is working on it? We have some developers who have received advanced copies from Microsoft - and we have a machine that currently has had all options exhausted trying to get it to print to our docucolor 242. all signs point to some oddity with extraneous data being sent with the print job to the fiery controller.

needless to say xerox recommended we reload windows on this machine. We'd rather upgrade it than re-install XP x64. But not if we'll have a problem of having no drivers for the printer (the whole reason we're re-doing this machine's OS).

    thanks for any help

I was able to get our printer working with Windows 7 by following these steps:

    1. Go to this link and download the “Install from Web” driver. This is important as this will always download the latest driver: http://www.support.xerox.com/go/getfile.asp?Xlang=en_US&XCntry=USA&objid=69020&EULA=1&prodID=GLOBALPRINTDRIVER&Family=Xerox%20Global%20Print%20Driver&ripId=&langs=English%20%28US%29&plats=Windows%207&Xtype=download&uType=
    2. Run the installer and agree to the EULA
    3. Click the Networked Printer icon
    4. Put in the IP address of the printer and hit Search
    5. Select the printer and hit Next
    6. Stick with the default options and click Install – the app will download and install the right print drivers
    7. Click Set Printer As Default and Print A Test Page then click Finish.

What RIP - ours is actually the EXP250 external RIP to Doc250, I've used the xp drivers for the 32 bit Win7 but for 64 bit Win 7 have used the 64 bit and server drivers.

Both kind of worked - the Server driver was on Xerox site for 260 had a nicer interface but incorrectly interpreted the background on a Publisher file. Also Adobe PDF fit to margins is ignored - change at Command Work Station

The 64 bit driver so far has worked, during install say its a local printer, create a new TCPip port for each install, same ip number but different name.

    - that way it creates a new printer Icon each time, otherwise all printers to one IP are hidden within 1 Icon - a windows 7 detraction.

Change one port to LPR, and queue to "hold", this way you have 1 printer that prints and another that data goes to hold queue, name appropriately. I'm not sure if the Adobe pdf fit to margins works, but as mentioned you can change it at the hold queue in Command Workstation if not. I don't think we changed the other queue but if we did it would have been using LPR and giving the queue name "print"

I also tried the Xerox Global print driver - while it works when nothing else is available it doesn't seem to allow any changes in driver or using Command Work Station.

Windows 7 64 Bit Drivers for DocuColor 240

Has anyone found a driver for the DocuColor 240 that works with a Windows 7, 64 bit installation? I have a Fiery Splash RIP.

I spoke with Level 1 tech support a couple of weeks ago. They indicated to me that a driver would not be available until sometime between August and October of 2010, which is pathetic considering how many of these machines are currently in service across the continent.

Not satisfied with that response, I contacted the local office that sold me the printer. They did some research and suggested that I use the Vista 64 bit driver.

The drive installed fine in both instances (for both print and hold queues, selecting lpr as the port protocol in both instances). After installation I went to the Print Driver Properties, then Accessories tab and ensured that the Professional Finisher was present under Installed Options.

The problem lies in trying to do any Finishing on a job. Hole punching is in the driver as an option, but can't be selected. Folding and Stapling do not even appear as options.

Fortunately, I still have Command Workstation here on another computer. After I send the job to the hold queue, I move to the other computer and change the settings in Command Workstation on that computer. Unfortunately, this is not really a solution as much as a workaround.

Any word on a proper driver for this printer (or solution) would be greatly appreciated.

Did they make a Splash Fiery for the 240?

Anyway, my 64 bit install went bad while I was on holidays, when I got back the Graphic artist was no longer able to print 2 sided, files would not even convert using command workstation. I was going to re-install a backup of my Win7 but decided to try the System File Check like I did on XP sfc /scannow. However Windows 7 no longer allows that, but they do allow a repair install if you put the DVD in, I did that and once it completed the printer driver problem was gone, so it is something you could try just in case a file has corrupted or been replaced by a faulty one. Remember I had a complete backup using Clonezilla.org backup in case the repair caused more problems so as always this is to be used at your own risk.

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for your reply! Yes, they did make a Splash Fiery for the 240. Three shops in town have the same piece of equipment with the same Fiery.

I'll try the repair install if it comes to that and see what happens. Of course, if Xerox would provide the proper drivers none of this would be necessary.

    Thanks,

    Brian
