When I first installed my docucolor 242 with bustled EFI Fiery X3eTY RIP on Thursday, I found an odd issue which was printing black, white, and gray random "star" shapes covering 30% of the page when printing pages from CorelDraw X3 or CorelDraw X4, as if an outline of one or more objects went randomly astray and knocked out everything else over or under it.

I resolved this error by applying a two part patch from xerox:
Composite Patch (#2 of 2) (1-Z4E66) for DocuColor 242/252/260 with built-in Fiery controller
    and
Composite Patch (#1 of 2) (1-U8E58) for DocuColor 242/252/260 with built-in Fiery controller

This resolved the "random star on output" problem when printing from Coreldraw, but now I have a new problem specific to CorelDraw (both X3 and X4) printing to this RIP/printer.

    • If I print an 11 x 17 landscape and select the print/paper size as 11 x 17 landscape on the latest xerox/fiery postscript printer driver (EFI Windows driver release 1-ZLHOD for DocuColor 242/252/260 Fiery 9/17/2008), the print now comes out portrait on the 11x17 sheet rotated 90 degrees and cut off. Happens with all drawers (1, 2, and OHCF 6)

    • If I publish to PDF from coreldraw, I can print the same print from acrobat and landscape is landscape with the same printer/rip settings - no rotation occurs.

    • So it would appear to be a coreldraw specific problem, except that I can print from coreldraw the same file to my canon fiery RIPs without any rotation issue, so then it seems this issue is something to do with the combination of CorelDraw plus the xerox/EFI Fiery driver.

    • Next I found that if I check the box in coreldraw for use PPD and select the pagemaker ppd file provided by xerox, I can print from coreldraw without the involuntary landscape -> portrait rotation occuring, so I can print a landscape 11x17 landscape on an 11x17 sheet without issue.

However, then I lose the much nicer Fiery print driver GUI with it's quick presets and easier tab organization, etc. and have to select all the options from the one-page alphabetical advanced tab of dropdowns which takes more time. At least it works fine though. And with an hour or so I should be able to create seperate ppd files for each of my common print job options, but this isn't as smooth as being able to print without the ppd with the print driver's native GUI. Still I'm a bit baffled by why the PPD is ncessary and what it is doing that isn't working with the driver's native GUI. Any ideas or anyone encounter this before with a docucolor 242/252/260 with bustled Fiery rip and coreldraw?

From the corel forum: http://coreldraw.com/forums/p/10367/41764.aspx#41764 apparently this is a known major flaw in coreldraw:
I guess my two canon fiery rips just ignore this corel glitch, but I'm hit with the xerox fiery rip unless I use the PPD file which luckily at least makes it workable (gets around this glitch, but I lose things like easy imageshift for centering so I instead have to do it from the machine itself which is ~ a 7 click process instead of 2.)

I wonder if the other rip options available like the creo are affected by this corel ps glitch or not?
