Is it possible to read the meters of a docucolor 242 over the network?

On our canons we can browse to their IP and get toner and paper status as well as the total, black, and color meters.

Is there a way to add toner/paper status and meter counts to the machine status you get when you browse the xerox docucolor's IP address on the LAN? On the home tab it currently only lists processing and printing status.

    Try CentreWare - it's a free download.

Downloaded, but it's a bit on the heavyweight side just to read the meters... it seems I have to have a machine running IIS to install xerox's centerware...

The only way I know of to do that through the web interface is if you have accounting turned on, that way you can see the breakdown of what copies were made on the account. Otherwise it just shows toner and drum life.

Thanks Nessus -- so if I turn on accounting, will it give the the machine bw and color total meters by browsing to its IP with a web browser?

Will have to look into accounting to see if it has any drawbacks for me as the sole-machine user.

P.S. Currently the docucolor doesn't even show me toner or drum use by browsing to the machine's built-in web server - the built-in web server seems useful only to look at scanned documents a tiny bit quicker than by using fiery remote scan.

With the canons this was somewhat handy in that I could copy and paste the meters to submit them vs. with the xerox having to go the machine, write them down, and then type them in. But not a huge deal either.

Yes I believe so. With Xerox Standard Accounting that is and not just Auditron. The only hitch is it's not the actual count of the machine but only what was done on that account. So if you have 50,000 on it right now and you create an account and do 500 copies tomorrow the account will show 500 and not 50,500.

Alternative method is to use SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to retrieve the Pager Counter Meters from the printer.
You can use SNMP clients or library like NET-SNMP. C++, Perl and PHP languages are SNMP-capable.

For several Xerox printers (including Xerox DC252 model), meters are stored under the OID tree: 1.3.6.1.4.1.253.8.53.13.2.1.6.1.20

    Black/White Total Pages= 1.3.6.1.4.1.253.8.53.13.2.1.6.1.20.34
    Color Total Pages= 1.3.6.1.4.1.253.8.53.13.2.1.6.1.20.33

(Pardon me if I am re-awakening a zombie thread, but this needs to be shared.... after days of frustration and headaches in trying to get the meters over the network).

    Happy printing!

Thanks very much - I never implemented a solution to this (have been walking to the printer room every month each time to both report meters and to order toner which requires a separate meter read from the monthly read. Now that they have web based supply ordering it really makes sense to do something more elegant than reading out the numbers by hand. Really appreciate the info as it's about time to revisit this. Thanks!

May I ask where you found this information?
