    Greetings,

I have three Phaser 7700 printers I've acquired over the years. My first was way back in 2003 I believe, so I've been using them for a decade! However, they are getting long in the tooth and all three machines have problems. I'm about to rip one of them apart to replace all the developer--fun fun! :D

I've been eyeing the new 7800. I have a few questions, though:

    - How well do these print on glossy stock? I understand the fuser temperature is lower, and I've had problems with heavy toner coverage adhering to double sided glossy stock. I mostly print small 5" x 7" booklets (cut down from 8 1/2" x 11"), and I need to do duplex printing. So, I'm a bit concerned with the lower fuser temperature that I may have problems with the glossy paper. I also print on glossy label stock, although I've been using inkjets the past two years for that, since I get better results.

    - Along those lines--one issue I've had with glossy stock in the 7700 printers is page curling with heavy coverage. Is this better with the 7800?

    - I'm considering buying a printer and getting a PagePack contract so I don't have to worry about consumables and service, especially since much of what I print has fairly heavy toner coverage. I'm not sure what are fair prices to pay, though, and I've been quoted different figures based on the toner coverage. I'd be happy to know what others are paying (you can send me a private message if you don't want to post publicly).

I'm looking for a 7800/GX since I need the additional paper trays. I've been quoted $4800 for a new machine, shipped, although that was last fall. Not sure if prices have fallen since them--the MSRP seems to have dropped on Xerox's site. I'm happy to entertain quotes from dealers here.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

    ..Al

Yes, it will print glossy stocks
Yes, it will print glossy cover - way heavier than 7700. The 7760 was a serious step up and this one is even better - #110 cover I think. Lower fusing temp. has to do with lower melting temp. of the toner, nothing to do with ability to cook the toner to the media.
Yes, because so many turns in paper path - printed material tend to come-out slightly bent but this has to do with the way the paper travel trough the machine, not to particular Make/Model.
We have Xerox Phaser 7800 DX with just 2600 pages on the meter - $2400 + cost of freight. I think any of your local Xerox dealer/Partner should have no problem to enroll it under any service contract. I can give you serial number so you can verify - let me know if you are interested.
