Real-world the two are very close.

Maybe someone will post the mathematics of how 600 dots per inch with 256 variations in laser intensity per dot compares with 2400 dots per inch either on or off, but the reality is that you need to get print samples from the printers you're interested in from your own files of typical or most difficult jobs and compare with your own eye. The resolution is of the laser assembly to mark on the drum, but in reality there are currently no apples-to-apples comparisons when taking into account the other elements of the print system that produce the final print: the physical properties and gamut of the toner, the transfer, and the fusing on the paper that produce the actual print.

To my eye the Xerox 2400 x 1 bit produces a slightly finer screen with tighter even less noticeable dot screen. But it might be pushing the envelope as the 600 dpi x 8 bit prints (KM) have higher consistency in the screen. Overall it's about even in my book and not the deciding factor for me, though white text on a color image produces sharper edges with the 2400 x 1 bit to my eye.

    Simple, your math is wrong.
    2400 x 2400 x 1= 5,760,000 dpi
    600 x 600 x 8 = 5,760,000 dpi

I own a docucolor 242 I don't know if the KM will be better but to the normal eye 600dpi is usually the limit. I think the source and the rip is what you should consider first when using this level of equipment.
