I am researching optimum chill roll temperatures for Heat-Set web presses with a 4 to 6 chill roll configuration. Any studies, PDF files, and or links to such information would be greatly appreciated. I have been unable to find any useful information with web search engines. Thank you in advance for any information.

How many colors are you running? In my experience keeping the chills between 55 and 65 degrees is ideal.

Your best option for cooling on chill rollers is to buy a chill pac which controls the temp of the water going into the chills. You only want to decrease the web temp about 22% from one chill to the other. Too much cooling you get condensation build-up. Too little cooling you start marking. Control your first and second chill drum temp so that you take off approx. 22% of the web temp on the first chill drum and another 22% on the second. By the time you exit your last chill you should be back to room tempreture.
